Jewelheart is stuck in a Cinderella-y situation, with a family that keeps her locked inside the house to clean and stuff. Her family is going to a fancy ball with hors d'oeuvres and champagne and stuff.

"Hey can I go too?" says Jewelheart.
"Absolutely not, you're a maid and we're gonna make you clean and stuff," says her evil family.

So they leave for like an early pre-fete brunch or smth. And at first she's got learned helplessness and stuff and she keeps cleaning, but then she's like "nah, actually I'm going to that fancy ball"

So she sneaks into a spare bath and bathes. Now keep in mind that this Skydancer is covered in ash and in rags most of the time so she thinks she's ugly, and it's not like her family's giving her a confidence boost. But she bathes and she's like "holy Arcanist I'm an XXY Magenta/Fuchsia" except not in those words because those probably are very technical terms that dragons wouldn't use in canon. So she's a little bit more hopeful that this might work out, and after sudsing up, she goes out to get into a dress.

Except my girl doesn't have a fairy godmother or nothing to bail her out. So she just,,, looks around the house for stuff that is 1) remotely fabric-like, 2) will fit on her body, and 3) probably won't be noticed by the family if they're gone. Bodice that got thrown out because it has a wine stain on the front? She scrubs it as much as she can and then slaps some purple glitter on it. Boom. Old coat hangers? Paint those pink and those'll make a great masquerade mask. Dishrags? Those are a skirt now. Forget it, let's take the spider web, spider and all. You're going for a ride, Charlotte.

So she sneaks out and goes to the ball, and again she's bright magenta wearing this patchwork outfit so people look at her. It's certainly something that the upper-crust hasn't seen before, but she ends up catching the attention of several very wealthy lads and lasses that would like to buy her all the gems in Sornieth and whatnot. She's just trying to get at that finger food because this is more calories than she's had in like a year, but ya know, fielding declarations of love from smitten rich people is a pretty good problem to have in comparison to a life of indentured servitude.

So she's having fun, right? Shimmying the night away. But she notices her family, and they notice her, and they start whispering. They're not like, FULL BLOWN aware that it's her, but they recognize her from somewhere. Was she in that business meeting with Count Whatshisface? Is she someone they should know? And so my girl figures that it's time to dip. But one of the girls/lads/whatever from forever stops her and is like "Wherefore art thou running, beautiful maiden of the Arcanist's favor? I cannot lose you yet. I do not have even a hint of thy name."

"Call me Jules," she says, before running out of there and leaving a Solemn Healer's Slipper on the staircase.

The entire ballroom swoons at this dashingly beautiful Skydancer, who had left like a soft breeze as quickly as she had come.
