These drones have developed a tertiary gene, which entails one of several things depending on the type of mutation. It may be a useful ability, a harmless pattern, or a dangerous curse - it is, of course, highly dependent on the specifics of the situation.

Weapons, similar to some castes like assimilation drones and archers, have an expanded pouch located within their throat. Instead of fluid, however, the pouch contains hundreds of tiny, insect-like creatures that the weapon can exhale and control. Weapons have innate knowledge of the insect’s location and senses, enabling them to monitor and control them like a consciousness controls its drones. Weapons earn their name from the way they use this ability - most frequently, the insects have a number of painful or deadly weapons like massive mandibles or deadly venom, and are commanded to swarm and attack targets as a method of distraction until the weapon or another nearby drone dispatches them.
