Cosaru

Many thought that Cosaru had always been bathed in gifts from the day he was born - but that wasn't the case.

When the King had found out he was unable to bear any children, he had held a competition to find his heir. A series of nigh impossible tests and tasks were set up in the courtyard and around the kingdom. Mostly it was the poor and the needy that participated; desperate families pushed forward their young children for the task, leaving their small shoulders weighed down with hopes and wishes that were beyond their understanding. Even yet, the ones that were favored came from wealthy families that wanted to only feed their greed and lay in the comfortable lap of a lavish lifestyle.

Cosaru was an orphan; unusually small for his breed and starved near to death. The orphanage that took him in had cast him out from day one for a reason he could never dream of controlling. An Imperial that wasn't royalty or nobility? Certainly he was a spy that wanted to take over the slums for himself... right?

He knew he was weak but there was a chance at gaining a better life, at gaining a belly full of food. That wasn’t something he could pass up. So up he scampered to the King's Castle, ridiculed for even thinking that a scrawny kid like him could compete against the “rich and worthy.” Headless of their words, he unfolded his thin, grey stained wings and strolled up with a determination the others didn't have.

They wanted to win, but Cosaru needed it.
