Honored, hated; Muumioitu laughed through it all. Rumors fueled his delight as those lower than he whispered falsehoods about him, unaware his name on their lips only made him stronger. A cripple, some said, noting that they'd never seen him upright, always lounging among pillows and silks and piles of gold. Tuhkat's lover, others whispered, for none knew why Tuhkat valued a dragon they'd never seen working.
The undesirables knew nothing, for Muumioitu would tell them nothing. He need not correct or confirm their foolish thoughts. So long as they spoke his name with a devout mystery behind it, he was in control. The wildclaw's magic spun threads through their souls each time his name was spoken as dragons worked for days without realizing it, stopping only when exhaustion claimed them. "By my name you shall call me," was how he greeted each newcomer, fueling his own rumors. Only Tuhkat knew better than to give him the chance, a thousand names for Muumioitu used instead of his true name. Perhaps the undesirables thought it was done out of affection.
