Subspecies Lore

Like the beautiful birds they are named for, this subspecies’ ancestors rose from the ashes of the Blacksand Annex as some of the first revitalized Banescales. The very first were adorned in clinging hardened ash, plastered across the warm, fiery hues of their scales. The Phoenixes’ ancestors wore their ashes with pride once they learned that they were the few that survived. The information was pieced together by discovery of long-forgotten artifacts and the shocked reactions of modern dragons when these ancients reappeared in the world. The caked on streaks symbolized how they had defied death. Proud of their resilience and ancestry, these first ancestors set out to explore this brave new Sornieth

Their journey did not take them far, however – while exploring the Ashfall Waste, the newly awakened Banescales became enraptured by the sight of nesting Coatls in the Emberglow Hearth. Their vivid hues and lovely songs reminded them of what cultural history their ancestors had managed to leave for them. They watched for a time from a distance, observing these strange colorful dragons in their daily lives. Finally, their curiosity could no longer be contained, and the Banescales decided to approach.
26205.png The sight of these unfamiliar and massive beasts swooping down from the skies initially gave the Coatls a great fright. The songs that the Banescales spoke in were foreign to the Coatls, but they could decipher from the tone and vaguely familiar melodic patterns that they meant no harm and were incredibly excited to meet the Coatls. The feeling was mutual, and so the Flamecaller’s children worked together to develop a pidgin, then creole language based upon their own musical languages’ similarities. The Banescales adored the stories the Coatls had to tell, and the Coatls were fascinated by the tale of struggle that these ancients endured upon hatching. After having stayed a few weeks, the Banescales inquired about staying permanently with the Coatls, as they greatly enjoyed their company. The Coatls were glad to have them, and so the Banescales officially became a fixture of the little nesting clan.
