From the very moment he was hatched near the lava flows of Emberglow Hearth, Kiwila asked questions. His thirst for knowledge was insatiable. Every little thing caught his attention and he wanted to know what it was, how it worked, what it could do. His parents thought the trait was charming, though they quickly grew tired of his constant barrage of questions. It's not that they did not love him, they did with all their heart, it's just that it grew tiring to answer question after question about every little thing. It did not deter Kiwila. He would go to the other adults and ask them. The elders of his clan would spend hours telling him about their life and how things used to be and he would eat up every word. As soon as he could read, he devoured every book available to him. As he grew, he began doing experiments on everything. Did gravity affect everything equally as they told him? Did the temperature always drop before a storm? Even if he knew something as fact, he wanted to test it to see if he could bend what he knew. One day, as a teenager, he asked his mother if it was possible for an Imperial to swim against the current of the nearby river. She told him to ask his father, not really paying attention to what he'd asked. So Kiwila asked his father who was in the middle of a writing a scene for a novel. Without looking up, his father said "probably". That was all it took for Kiwila to head to the nearby river to test his theory. The answer was no. |

Swept away by the current, Kiwila crashed into rocks and submerged logs, breaking a wing and knocking himself unconscious in the process. When he woke, he found himself in Carrion Canyon with two Imperials arguing above him about him. The adult male, Thor, wanted to leave Kiwila to survive on his own. The teenaged female, Kintsugi, wanted to help Kiwila. Fortunately for Kiwila, Kintsugi won out. Thor did not like Kiwila, that much was apparent, but Kiwila didn't let that bother him. Even after he got cuffed over the head with a wing for asking too many questions, Kiwila kept wanting to know their story. It fell on Kintsugi to answer his questions and they quickly grew closer. He was just as fascinated with her as she was with him, and they traded questions and stories enthusiastically, despite Thor's displeasure. The moment Kiwila was able to fly, Thor tried chasing him away. Kintsugi begged her father to reconsider, and Kiwila's heart was torn. He quietly told Kintsugi that he needed to get back home, his parents were probably worried sick. She cried, torn between her new friend and her father. Thor, sensing her distress, chased her away too, wanting his daughter to be happy and not stuck scavenging with him. Together, they flew back to Emberglow Hearth where Kiwila reunited with his parents. They berated him and essentially grounded him for eternity, but welcomed Kintsugi in with open arms. There they stayed for a few years until both Kiwila's thirst for knowledge and Kintsugi's yearning to see more of the world spurred them onward. They flew around the world, soaking up the sights and culture. While they were traveling through the wind region, Kintsugi realized she was soon to lay eggs. They quickly found a cave system in the Reedcleft Ascent to hunker down and build a makeshift nest. The caves were already occupied by Sombra and Minerva, but they both welcomed the couple in warmly. Relieved, Kiwila and Kintsugi stayed until their hatchlings were old enough to fly with them. Wanting to show their new brood to their parents, they took off to Emberglow Hearth. Unfortunately, Kiwila's parents had moved on to another place. Kiwila sent them a letter and the family flew to the Shifting Expanse. Thor was much more welcoming that time around when there were grandchildren to see. They stayed for a while, but eventually resumed their world tour. When their children were grown and had left to seek out their own adventure, Kiwila and Kintsugi returned to the caves that had welcomed them so warmly before. Together, they made the caves more homely and helped to take care of any traveler that needed a rest. Kiwila still asks question after question, constantly challenging what he knows of the world. He's amassed quite a big library in his lair and he pours over books and experiments day in and day out. He's still devoted to his family though, and will stop what he's doing to spend time with them no matter what. |
