Biography

Oak was hatched and raised by a Talonok clan, having been mistaken for a lost Raptorik egg. It was clear why his egg was abandoned, as it did not glow like most Light eggs, and was a smooth, light brown, instead of shining sunlight. None of the Talonok realized what they had until Oak had already hatched and imprinted on the Raptorik that adopted his egg. But the clan knew how valuable a dragon ally could be, no matter how small or weak.

Though, it did help that he looked more like a bird than most Spirals. His wings were awkward things of fluffy down, instead of long fingers and webbing. He had soft scales along his face and legs, enough to give him a pseudo beak and tougher claws. He even had a small ridge of feathers along the top of his head, like a Wildclaw.

He also had many that would prove advantageous, with time. His long, strong tail and spine allowed him to wrap around tree trunks and branches, and stay put in even the harshest winds. His natural spiraling flight pattern made him harder to hit, for those not used to dealing with Spirals. And due to his Light heritage, he seemed to have a natural sense for how to position himself so that the sunlight reflecting off his scales would shine in his opponent's eyes.

There was much commotion in the Talonok clan, the day he hatched. The concern was brought to the leaders and elders of the village, who then left to discuss the issue in private. By the end of the day, the leaders had come to an answer; they would keep the hatchling, and raise him as their own. They would train him in whatever his calling would be, and hopefully gain a powerful ally.

They named him Unglingur, or Sapling, and he was raised and trained along side his nest-siblings in all manner of things. He learned the weave reeds into baskets, to make and repair his clothes, to make and repair fishing poles, lines, and nets, and many other things. When his flight feathers grew in, he was taught how to fly, albeit with more trial and error than most. But what he excelled at, and looked forward to each day, was combat training. The eldest warrior of the clan, long retired from active combat, trained the younger generations, so they would carry on his knowledge and skills.

From the moment he was old and strong enough to wield the training baton, he threw himself into his training, quickly learning everything the old warrior could teach. The day soon came, a full two years after his flight feathers grew in, that the old warrior said that he had learned all he could from him. All that was left was the final trial, facing their teacher in single combat, until one yielded.

Unglingur won in under a minute. With his victory, he was now considered a full adult, and warrior of the clan. And as with tradition with this clan, he was allowed to pick a new name to go by for the rest of his life, or keep his hatchling name. Unglingur chose to rename himself, with the name he had chosen two years ago.

Unglingur was, from then on, known as Eikarvaengur (Oakwing), or Eikar (Oak) to his friends. He chose to keep Unglingur as a surname, as was common in many clans, both Beastfolk and Dragon. It was also to honor his time as a child, and as one who is always learning and growing.

After that, he left his home, and wandered across Sorneith, helping any who needed his aid, fighting in countless duels and competitions, and always learning new things. He has since come to rest in Starvale, off the coast of Arcane territory, where all beings are welcome, big or small, Beastfolk or Dragon.
