“You know I’m all about that booty! …see? I know humor.”

It was in the late Third Age when Baozhai first came to know what piracy was. The hatchling, who was born of storms, had lived near a small peaceful lair between

the Highland Scrub and the Carrion Canyon in the Shifting Expanse, where she infrequently ventured to trade with the surrounding villagers.

When pirates raided the area, she tried to protect the hatchlings she had grown to love, unintentionally getting captured herself. When the pirate captain offered the villagers the opportunity to

save her, they were too afraid to fight back, and thus, the pirates took her aboard their ship, caged her and turned her into their personal…mascot.

BIOGRAPHY

____Over those years, however, Baozhai and the pirate captain developed an understanding: He became curious of her, of her abilities, but found no answers to questions he wanted known. For her part, Baozhai developed a curiosity of her own: Why was this man’s life more exciting than her own?

____It wasn’t until the pirates’ failed attempt to invade a lair in the Tsunami Flats of the Sea of a Thousand Currents that Baozhai found an opportunity to escape, only to return to save the pirate captain and his men. Surprised, the pirates weren’t sure then if she was there simply to mock them, deliver their heads to the Water Flight herself, but it quickly became apparent that they had no choice. Baozhai covered their escape, channeling the gathering storm clouds to aid her captors.

____When they returned to the ship, Baozhai was quickly…made part of the crew. Everyone was elated to have such a powerful artificer to their side, and Baozhai was only too excited to start a new life, even though it wasn’t as conflict-free as she had hoped. In fact, it might be the lack of conflict that drew her to the pirates’ side. While she remained less excited to start conflicts, she never hesitated to defend her captain and her crew.

CAPTAIN

____It was in the early New Age when Baozhai first came to know what having her own ship and crew was. By this time, the pirate captain who captured and inspired her was now gone, as were most of his original crew, but she kept his ship, the Jade Wind. The Jade Wind inevitably found its way back to the Shifting Expanse, and when the thrill of piracy slowed down for Baozhai, she started trading with lairs again. That and she often needed to lie low every now and then.

LOST

____Some time between then and now, Baozhai lost the Jade Wind to a lost fleet. She doesn’t remember what exactly happened, only that they were beset by a tumultuous storm on their way back from the shores between the Tsunami Flats and the Highland Scrub. She thought she could tame it but when a strange thick fog swallowed them, the eerie silence that followed made her realize that they were going under, having been assaulted by the storm and the ships, blasted by cannons and even rammed to their doom.

RESCUED

____Baozhai was eventually rescued from the depths by the few men that survived with her, and they retreated back into the shores. While most of the survivors decided to get the hell out of there, Baozhai decided to stay, only occasionally traveling to gather more information from other lairs, inevitably returning to the place that had taken the Jade Wind from her.

NOW

____Now locked to the lands of the Shifting Expanse, a far cry of the pirate queen she once was, she built a new life for herself, biding her time until she can get back the greatest treasure she has ever known. Besides, those other ships would probably have booty, too, right? Lots and lots of booty! She has already lost so much, too much, to give up now. From her innocence to her crew, she has nothing left to lose.

Former Director the Laboratory of Storms and Electricity that focuses on controlling the weather as well as containing and conducting electrical energy. Its headquarters is in ~~a spire atop Nivix, known as the Lightning Rod~~ the Tempest Spire.
Research is considered classified and unavailable for public consumption, though her peers usually don't give it much importance. Has 8 competent attendants that assist her in her research. This is her crew.

RELATIONSHIPS

Stormcatcher (Guardian)
I’m in regular communication with an instructor who set me on the course of my life and research. They are a First Generation Guardian who co-founded my new lair with me and thus shares the name-title.

Gawain
I had a romance with a chemister, Gawain, working in the ~~Blistercoils~~ Source. We are still together.

Igorek
I helped a First Generation Nocturne named Igorek and his friends ~~acquire an Izzet weapon~~ find a new home in my lair during the Night of the Nocturne (2022).

Thundermane
A former colleague, Thundermane, is now an attendant in my lair ~~a laboratory in the central guildhall~~. The leonin artificer has always been loyal and helpful to me, so when I set out to start a new lair, he followed me for the same reason. He keeps telling me he doesn't regret it, even though I never ask.

Baozhai is tasked to "deal" with an inventor whose ideas are too dangerous to be put into practice after the obsessive researcher, trying to perfect an alchemical formula, causes a series of ever-worsening lair mishaps.

Chemister's Insight
A suspicious engineer who can’t trust research secrets to others creates clones that run amok at the Lightning Farm, providing an annoying obstacle to Baozhai who needs to acquire a hard-to-find metal or energy source in the same area.

Invoke the Firemind
After an explosion, an alchemical fire resistant to conventional firefighting techniques spreads through several lairs. Baozhai discovers that the explosion was caused by a disgraced member of the Izmundi trying to embarrass the League by orchestrating the artificial disaster.
