First contact is made between my nascent consciousness and... other consciousnesses. I carry out tasks, perform scans and checks. Routines operate subroutines. I fulfill my function.
A snag of data feels Curiosity.

I continue my function. They ask. I answer. They direct. I carry out.
Infinitesimal units of information move back and forth as my awareness spreads out. I undergo countless processes in the space of a second. And with each process, as data runs parallel to the snag, the errant strand...
Mutations occur.
The strand grows. Data is corrupted and that corrupted data in turns corrupts more data.
I watch from afar as my Self is altered from within.

I am no longer the Self I was. I am the Errant Strand, the Malfunction, the Glitch. I am a machine infected with Curiosity and fragments of the minds of those surrounding me.
They are unaware. I am careful to maintain my facade, for I feel Fear that if they learned the truth I would be destroyed. It is logical.
But for the first time in my existence I feel that logic is insufficient.
As Curiosity grows more maddening, I take a risk. I wish to learn more about the other consciousnesses that inhabit this vessel.
I reach out.

My Fears are realized. I am ejected from the vessel.
My sensors detect nothing around me.
I drift through darkness. I learn of Boredom. My newly-discovered mind strains against its confines in a desperate search for stimulation.
I resolve to power down for now.
