STORY ★ Had Halla ever known a home? The question rang in his ears, reverberating more powerful each time. Had he ever had a real purpose? An actual life? Or was he only a wanderer? Never to know what the real world was like, never to feel the tranquility of the skies, never to live a real life- Halla shook his head, grumbled something incoherent, and promptly fell of his bed onto the hard, unforgiving floor. He lay there, not wanting to do anything productive before finally getting up. He grabbed a net from a nearby hook and walked out his door. The bright sun shone on his face as he walked to the nearby cliffside. Settling down, he cast his line and watched it fall, cutting swiftly through the air until it dropped into the water. It was hot, to put it mildly. Halla sighed and reeled his line back in. Today had not been the most successful day. The nightmare had returned, the area was burning hot, and hardly any fish were stirring. He packed up his meager catch and plodded down the road to the marketplace. No good in letting the fish rot in the heat, even if they wouldn't sustain a hungry dragon for long. The afternoon passed by, and Halla had made quite a bit of money with his catch. It wasn't much, but it would do. He put his treasure into a chest at the back of his hut and picked up his pendant. He slid it over his neck, contemplating about the day he'd found it. If only that happiness could return to him again, his life would make more sense. But it hadn't returned, not for a long, long time. The day it happened had been the most exhilarating yet most frightening day of Halla's life. The roars of defiance, the cries of pain, the screams of death and the calls of victory. Nothing had made sense, yet everything had clicked. For that one moment, he'd been dragon no more. For that one moment, he'd known what it felt like. For that one moment, he'd been free. But truthfully, Halla realized, he didn't need his past anymore. He didn't need to be bothered by it anymore. If only he could push aside the heavy weight of guilt... maybe he would finally find his purpose. A single step would take him that much closer to his destination. One step to begin his journey. All he needed was the motivation to put one foot in front of the other, and then time would flow once more.(Zikitty)
