once they change breed, they'd be like "wait, but can i still find something to be my charge? or is it permanently erased from my being? because that did sound like a fun thing to look forward to, but i still want to ~explore~ other breed's cultures...?"
maybe they'll find their charge while they're still guard, like, really early, and even tho there's no inner force that makes them care abt it, they'll still keep it safe, as a memory
