"I am a messenger because if I run fast enough, maybe my past won't catch up with me."

"Hey, Tidewatcher." The armored wildclaw looked up from her scrolls as a shimmering, cream colored pearlcatcher bedecked with smoking gemstones approached her. "Hey Hosanna," She greeted, setting her pen down. She saw a sealed scroll in the male's front claw and inclined her head. "Need something delivered?" "Yes, actually." Hosanna looked down at the scroll in his talons. "I need this brought to our Shadow friends- it's our list of excess supplies for this month." Tidewatcher's wings flared, and if she was still holding her pen, she would have dropped it. Hosanna must have seen the alarm on her face and backpedaled. "Of course I can ask someone else- I think Bedlam said he was itching for another run lately." He added quickly. Tidewatcher exhaled and folded her wings close again. "I'm sorry, I just..." She flexed her talons, her big talon on her right hind leg tapping the ground profusely. "I don't like remembering that place." "Ah." Hosanna's face was sympathetic as he moved to sit next to Tidewatcher, wrapping one wing around her in a comforting hug. "Bad memories?" Tidewatcher accepted the hug gladly. "Yeah." "I get it." The pearlcatcher worried at his pearl with his front claws. "I came from a very intense clan. They wanted a specific hatchling from my mother and father, and when it was clear that I was not that hatchling..." He grimaced, clearly uncomfortable. "I'm sorry, Hosanna." Tidewatcher lowered her head. "That's must have been hard." Hosanna shook his head, as if clearing his thoughts, his jewelry jangling like windchimes. "I assume something similar happened with your family?" "No." Tidewatcher looked up at the setting sun through the window. "It wasn't like that. I had a loving mother and father. The whole clan was kind, in fact." She took a deep breath. "It's just that... sometimes, I'd get dreams from Shadowbinder. I was too young to understand, but I knew it was scary. |
