Salvationis

A murmur of unease passes through the clan. A stranger has insinuated themselves among the members, spreading words of dissent and despair while the matriarch is not present.
Although the clan welcomes all comers, taking in those the matriarch sends, no one is entirely sure who vouched for Salvationis, or even when she first arrived. She insinuated herself into the clan so subtly, no one can say when or where she came from. At first glance, she seems innocent, harmless even. A soft-spoken mirror, who sets herself up as a friend to all, urging them to confide in her, to bring her their troubles, to let themselves be soothed by her honeyed words. Have they worries? Troubles with the matriarch? Bring them to her, she urges, let her stand in that worthy's stead and ease their troubles.

But though she lets them confide in her, she in turn confides in no one. She holds their secrets, and her own, close to her chest. When they tell her their troubles, they hear them echoed back in the form of treasonous whispers. Her sweet words take on a touch of venom, poisoning those who listen to them. And behind her quiet demeanor, in her eyes burns the passion of an obsessive, a fanatic. The clan never knew what a master manipulator it took into itself. When the matriarch is away, she is everywhere and nowhere, whispers spreading dissent and despair. Why does your so-called matriarch leave you? Especially now, in your time of great need? There is a great sorrow coming. I hear your troubles, and I know that many more are coming. Salvation should be sought, she whispers, for the end is swiftly approaching. Follow me, and I will lead you as your matriarch does not. I will never abandon you. Follow me, to your salvation. I will light your way.
Deep in her eyes, something burns.

Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I’ve tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
