Biography

Khemosabi grew up in a graveyard. Here tiny clan was the ghosts of past dragons, the specters that chose to visit her in the night, and the carroncorns that roamed between the bones. She was the ruler of her small, make-believe kingdom; her bone crown marked her authority and made her rule law. She delt with the carroncorn battles, help solve disputes among her whimsical subjects, all the while never realizing that she was the only living thing in her relm of death.

She met her first living thing when she was 10.

He appeared from the swirling mist, and at first she thought he was just another ghost coming to join her kingdom. However, she soon noticed something strange about her new subject. He looked healthier than the others, not so bony and dead. He wasn't see-through like the rest, he looked solid and real. And most of all, he spoke. No one ever spoke back to her. In all her years ruling, the most she ever got was a soft moan and the whistle of wind between the bones.

But he spoke.

He spoke to her of beautiful castles of rock and metal, vast jungles so full of smells and color and sound that that you could get swept away, colossal mountains mountains that seemed to split the sky apart, storms so fierce that even the dragons wouldn't dare fly through them, frozen wastelands and burning pits, and most of all, life. So much life. Life everywhere, in every nook and cranny, in every tree and cave and pond. And all she had to do was leave her misty palace, her kingdom of bone and death, and step outside and into the world that awaited her. With his help, she opened her mind to the possibility of something more. With his help she realized that this graveyard was not a home for something living, but a place of rest for the dead and forgotten. With his help, she realized that she could have a real family, real dragons to call her own, not wisps of smoke.

With his help, she went from death, to life.
