my heart is cutting my dreams to ribbons with shards of shame that gleam, skewed reflections of mockery and ridicule // the introspection magnifies every imagined flaw every unforgotten mistake, doubling them, tripling them, quadrupling them as i quake at the podium, on trial for the crime of being poetic, found guilty and sentenced to Failure // to be controlled // to be caged // to be crammed into the dead husk of a mold the world has shaped for me // to be ground to dust between the proverbial rock and the hard place that is the heteronormativity that eats at my throat // and between those boulders they rain down my sins between my shoulderblades until my skull cracks --
because being poetic is dramatic
