I. Inferno

Brought into this world in the worst of times amidst flames and smoke, he was left defenceless against the roaring heat. His former clan mourned his loss, believing that he had perished in the blazing inferno.

But fire did not harm him, and heat did not faze him. He grew up in the embrace of embers, moulded by the fire, loved by it. Now grown enough to travel, he will see to it that the rest of the world bows to the blazing overlord.

He found someone, once. Someone who could stand his flames, someone who stayed by his side. Yet, as he knew, nothing good could last long for the Prophet of the destructive element.

Searing heat, the screams of hatchlings. Losing control, fading...

The cool breeze. His mate, weaving her way through the flames.

The hatchings are safe.

His mate is not.

He grieves, still, and berates himself for his naïvety. He despises the power he once loved so.
