Biography
◆ Ramdel ◆
◆ Healer ◆ Inner Ring ◆
Ramdel is the clan’s healer and he takes care of all manner of illnesses and injuries, though what he truly excels at is inventing new medicines. He enjoys mixing random potions and testing them on himself (since he seems to be immune to most poisons, he deems it a worthy risk for science), which gives him a reputation of eccentricity and makes most dragons avoid him. He prefers to be left alone in his corner of the outer lair, where he experiments with strange concoctions and scribbles down his findings, muttering to himself all the while - though if another dragon needs his help, he is exceedingly polite and helpful. His closest friend is Everglade; ever since they met as young dragons they’ve been inseparable, and they still spend as much time together as they can (during which Everglade makes increasingly obvious attempts to woo Ramdel, who is painfully oblivious and doesn’t notice). |

As the runt of the nest Ramdel was the smallest hatchling and almost constantly sick, straining what precious few resources the lair had. His clan lived in secrecy, far from the comforting glades of the Everbloom Gardens, deep within the heart of the Seedscar. The clan was a roughshod gathering of warriors and spies sent to guard the First Seed; to them a disease ridden hatchling was nothing but a bad omen, a sign that they were wandering too close to the outskirts of their territory. They could never cull Ramdel while he was a youngling - despite their distance from the homeland, the laws and traditions of the Gladekeeper were rooted deep and it would be unspeakable to attack a hatchling. There was, however, nothing that compelled them to show the runt affection. If he died wandering too far from home or simply from disease, it would be no fault of the clan, just the work of nature taking its course. Finding himself shunned by all, with no respite from even his brothers and sisters, Ramdel wandered far outside the reaches of the lair and accross the Scarred Wasteland. He hoped to find a new home or perhaps just a playmate, but only disease and death haunted him. He was pursued for hours on end by packs of roving beasts and battered by a persistent rattling cough that threatened to overwhelm him, until at last he stumbled into Quarantine Zone #128. He collapsed in relief and nestled under a cluster of rocks in the hopes that nothing would find him there in the night. His rest was brief though, as he awoke to a sudden searing agony from the overflowing pools of radioactive acid dripping accross his tiny body. Mind filled with nothing but terror and pain, he shot out of the crevice and accross the Wasteland yet again, the shroud of darkness and his stunted size hiding him from the night patrol. The adrenaline wore off just after he made it accross the border into the Earth flight and his feeble body couldn't take any more running away. A travelling group of Snappers found him like that, collapsed in a heap under the shade of a cliff. They were wary of getting too close to a creature covered in bright green scars and pustules that seemed all too fresh, but their honour would not allow them to abandon a suffering hatchling entirely. Ramdel woke to find a pile of smoked fish and a covered container of water a few meters away from him, as well as the old tracks of a cart and clawprints larger than life gouged into the dry soil. With his belly full and a night of rest, he had enough energy to start his journey again to look for a new home - his long trek would take him accross the Shattered Plain, avoiding centers of civilization. He learned that lone adventurers and travellers were more likely to take pity on him, whereas whole clans would see him as a threat of starting a plague and would deter him with fangs and claws. In the end his journey would take him to the Pox Consulate, a place that felt most like home since the Seedscar, and he would be found and eventually adopted by Zira and Benny. At first they struggled to collect enough of the right herbs to keep the sickly dragon alive, only going off of Zira’s basic medicinal knowledge, but as more dragons joined (notably Everglade, who is rather handy with plants) they learned how to best take care of Ramdel. Nowadays he is rarely ill, in fact immune to most plagues and poisons as the one fortunate holdover from his sickly childhood - he was however left with glowing green scars and a speckled orange complexion that intimidates most dragons. He likes to lean into the aesthetic though, since it lets him experiment in peace with no wandering hatchlings underfoot, and so he wears a motley collection of bones, tatters and fungi. He takes off the costume when performing his healing duties, as to not scare his patients, with the exception of his plague doctor mask and thick gloves to hide his scars. Ramdel only removes his mask and gloves with his most trusted clan members, the only ones who know his past; his surrogate parents Zira and Benny and his dearest friend Everglade. |
