HUZZAH - The (Almost) Sentry
In theory, Huzzah serves as the clan's sentry, standing guard to ensure unfriendly visitors gain no entry. It's a position of great honor and trust, as taking responsibility for the clan's safety is no small task. Many dragons would be proud to hold such a post, and some would even lay down their lives in such a service.
In practice, however, there's very little the clan needs protection from, and Huzzah is more likely to be putting on a kettle than armor and banners.
She inherited the position, which is the only way she could be placed in such a role, and it's something of a wonder that she hasn't lost it yet. Perhaps those in power still think she has promise. Or maybe they simply haven't seen how much time she pours into her tea cups. Either way, Huzzah holds little regard for her formal position. Protecting the clan is a noble aim and all, but this deep in the Viridian Labyrinth, there are few travelers and even fewer threats that aren't simply native nuisances. Her clan does not need the alarms sounded every time a family of Toridae trundles out of the swamp to sun themselves nearby, nor do they care if the Ultramel Amphithere breeding season has begun. That's simply life in the tropical reaches of the Gladekeeper's domain.
They do, though, seem quite upset by her favorite hobbies. If you had asked her as a hatchling what might bring her elders to near hysterics, she would not have guessed that the theater would be near the top of the list. Or perhaps it has something to do with the guests that she invites to her shows. Still, she must fill the seats, especially when her clanmates refuse to come! Is it truly so terrible that Serthis and Talonok guests appreciate the art she provides? That they actually applaud her monologues and assist in her costuming efforts? The theater could be quite the busy locale if only the clan believed in it.
And if they didn't chase off Huzzah's guests every time.
She's long passed the number of claws needed to count how often the clan's leaders have scolded her for inviting Beastclan forces so close to home. "Forces" is a strong word in her mind ("forces" don't take afternoon tea with the enemy, after all), but no matter how she argues for her friends, none of her fellow dragons will budge. They simply plunk a helmet on her head and send her off to stand guard, like she was supposed to be doing in the first place. No more questions, no more excuses. Only duty to the clan, now and forever.
But next week, she's hosting teatime for the Maren along the southern coastline the clan holds, and the week after that, some of the local Centaur herds are supposed to be passing through with new linens and instruments that would liven up Huzzah's budding theater. These are very important commitments to keep, and can't someone else guard the clan?
