Unlike their brethren imbued with the blessings of the moon, the summer children hatched beneath the scalding sun. It beamed down upon the desert sand and three eggs glowed brilliantly under its light from where they rested amidst a nest of smooth desert glass. The land around them shuddered and wavered, heatwaves rippling from the surface of the sand as they rose up from the dunes and disappeared amidst a brilliant blue and cloudless sky.

It was beneath the sun's direct light that the first egg began to hatch. The eggshell splintered like glass, a myriad of dark cracks spreading across its surface as the first child was born. His siblings were soon to follow, three of them with long, flowing fur and eyes as bright as the sun. The sands around their nest rippled as their mother took form, rising up from the sea of pulverized rock. Soon, the children would leave this place to wander the vast desert. . . or perhaps, even lands far beyond.

The children of summer took their names after the Gods of old, and the first child became known as Horus. He wore a mask of ragged feathers and dry, brittle bone scavenged from the sands. He became a collector of such things, a finder of hidden treasures scattered and lost amidst the desert.
