Krake's clawed feet padded softly over the overgrowth of the Tangled Wood's shrub covered ground. Around the obsidian pearlcatcher, he could only see large dark trees and glowing blue mushroom caps for miles. It was the same scenery he had seen for the past few hours. Perhaps, he may have considered these sights a welcoming thing, if he had gotten to meet his adoptive parents who called this gnarled forest home. He did not though. He did not get to meet these parents. Instead he was separated from the caretaker who was supposed to drop him and now he was lost in the deepest part of the Tangled wood. The small drake was scared as he continued to weave himself around fungi and stumps. The darkness of night was going to be settling soon. He had nothing to shelter himself for the night. And no food or much to sustain him. He was alone and scared. He wouldn't survive like this on his own. He was only a hatchling. It felt as if he had been walking for hours. Hours and hours of brambles. He was beginning to get used to the sight. Though he couldn't shake the anxiety of being watched now. With every small gust of wind that blew through the trees he felt a chill run down his spine. He could feel eyes on his back, but every time he looked nothing was there. It left the small dragon fearful. Was there something in these woods? Did it want to hurt him? Krake did not have an answer for those questions. Instead of dwelling on them he continued forward through the woods. The thick of the forest was beginning to let up now. Perhaps his trek had paid off? Maybe he was close to somewhere he could find other dragons. Hopefully friendly ones. As he stepped out of the shade of the over grown trees he could hear laughter behind him. His entire body froze as he turned behind to look. Nothing again. He was sure thought that something was there. Something was in the woods with him. He had heard rumors of shadow dragons playing pranks of dragons who wandered into the Wood. He could only hope that whatever was in the tree line was not truly out to hurt him. Ignoring the eyes and the laughter that seemed to bounce all around him, the small hatchling soon found himself at a bank of water. Water that seemed to go on and on. From it's murky dark depths he could see trees rising from beneath the surface. Mushrooms and brambles reached from the darkness towards the sky as if in an attempt to escape their fate. The dark water drowned them still. The Sunken Forest was fast before him. As he came to the edge of the water he noticed that whatever had been following him through the woods had left. As if it didn't dare come near a forsaken place. He was alone once more. Krake was unsure if that was a blessing or a curse at this point. He decided to push the thought aside for now. The hatchling began to walk along the shoreline. How far did the embankment go? Was there food? Other dragons? He didn't know, but eventually he settled down. Trying to go any farther now would only serve in getting him caught in the pitch black darkness of night. He would rest here for the night and try again in the morning. When dawn broke through the night, Krake found himself staring bleary eyed and confused. The massive empty water of last night seemed different. Before him on the horizon he could see a ship. A large rickety thing with a golden chimera at the front. He pulled himself to his feet and padded closer to the water to look. The ship was coming in quickly, It's sail fully drawn. As it began to come closer to the shoreline the hatchling moved to hide behind a rather large mushroom. He wasn't sure about whoever was on that ship. He had wanted to find other's, but what if it wasn't a dragon? He waited silently to see what would step off the boat. A make shift bridge was thrown from the ship as it settled to shore. With it now connected to land, a large ridgeback climbed onto the embankment. His eyes were obscured by a pair of amber shades and his golden body was covered in clothing and decorations of red and black. He made his way from the shore towards the tree line. His back toward where Krake had been hiding. The hatchling watched with curiosity and alertness. It was a dragon. That was good, but he knew not all dragons were friendly to others. He cautiously stepped out from behind the tree as the ridgeback worked by the trees. Krake had yet to see what the large drake was doing. He kept his distance still, but forced himself to speak. "Did ... did you come from the sea?" The young one asked. The sudden sound of another's voice made the ridgeback turn quickly to the sound. When his eyes caught sight of the small dragon he blinked. He looked around himself and than back toward the hatchling before huffing. "... Perhaps." He commented as he shoved a handful of what seemed to be bugs into a small red pouch on his hip. "Where's your parents? You shouldn't be out by yourself." Krake paused at this. He looked down at the ground as he pondered the question for a small time. He hadn't even gotten to meet the dragons who would be his new parents. He had no idea what they looked like and they had no idea what he looked like. He sighed before shaking his head. "... I don't know. I never got to meet them." These words caused the ridgeback to pause entirely. He blinked at the pearlcatcher hatchling for a few seconds before huffing out slowly. He nodded his head before clicking his tongue in thought. After a moment or so the golden drake spoke again. "Come with me than. You'd die out here on your own. Hatchlings don't survive long by themselves especially with beastclans about." The large one said. He than pointed to his ship before continuing. "That ship sails the waters of the Sunken Forest. It'd be better than being lost, kid." The hatchling considered this a moment. The ridgeback had a point. He didn't even know who his new parents were supposed to be anyways. And he'd rather not be taken by beastclans. He nodded his head. |
