Biography
four & twenty blackbirds wrote:
The muck that squished between young Nibbler's toes was stained red. His heart was beating, his chest on fire, and the world buzzed slightly from the left side.
"Curious," Mortal had cooed when she saw him return to the circus grounds, blood dribbling from his side. "I would ask how you already managed to get in a fight, Nibble, but I doubt you'd answer." When she was angered, she often gave off the appearance of a rattlesnake, curled and hissing. Now, however, she was relaxed, her long body stretched out in the sun.
Nibbler grunted.
"I think you're going to get along just fine here, Nibs. Just fine." Her eyes, the same deep shade of red as his, drifted off towards the sky, and he felt her slip away.
"How do you live here?" he asked.
"Oh, pardon?"
"So much light. Look at you. You're losing your spirit. The Circus is mostly plague. I want to move back to my home and I know you do too."
Mortal's eyes flashed an angry shade in the sun. She snaked towards him, wrapping her form around his, squeezing gently. "Shh," she whispered. "I do. I want to. But now I am here, and so are you."
Nibbler swallowed. "We will go home."
"Will we now?"
"Yes. Yes we will. I promise."
A distant crow screeched, and then all was quiet.

embodiment of greed wrote:
There was blood on Nibbler's sore maw, and bones poked out of his mouth like teeth.
"That hatchling," the queens had sighed, watching him devour a third rabbit. "Whatever will we do with him?"
"He's the embodiment of greed," a sorcerer had added after visiting. "An absolute glutton."
"Off with him!"
"Off!"
"Off with the hatchling!"
It was Mortal that made the call. "Sweethearts, do you really judge him by his appetite? Let him eat. He will grow big and strong and be an asset to us all."
The queens hissed in fury, but recoiled, leaving the hatchling to the watch of the warrior Mortal.
"Eat my love," she said, tossing him another squirrel, "and I shall tell you of our kind."
