Biography

nksi5eiw.gif
Dr. Aster Valdez
world-famous entomologist | contact man to the corporation| highkey a creep

Aster is always smiling, always softspoken and polite, emitting a cheerful, fuzzy vibe just like the bees he loves so much.
Actually, "love" might not be the most fitting word here, its more of an unholy obsession. Due to a genetic anomaly and countless hours of reckless self-experimentation, the skydancer has reached a state of unbreakably bonded symbiosis with the masses of pearly white bees that always seem to be swarming him. He openly refers to them as "my children".

The type to find wonder and importance among the small and shunned things that crawl the surface of sornieth, its as good as impossible to encounter anyone more versed in the secret lives of insects , or anyone able to communicate with them on a deeper level. He actually likes spiders and other invertebrates too , of course, all crawlbabies are good babies. Will (and has) come 2 hours late to an important meeting because he stumbled upon an exhausted bumblebee or a spider with a broken leg at the side of the road, and had to fix the poor thing up first.

Living in his century-old mansion that could easily classify as every cottagecore-afficionado's wildest dream, he spends his time mainly tending to his impossible flower garden , making sure there's at least one favourite foodsource for every insect species around. Mostly known as a brilliant scholar and leading expert on his subject, very few people actually are aware of the ruthless mad scientist -and actual crimelord- beneath, but both the underworld and the general public agree on one thing : this man is way too much into bees.

First meeting with the head of the company - a little snippet i wrote up to adopt him :

Where Aster exactly comes from is unknown, and honestly- is it really that important? Now he's here, and that's what counts after all, so let's get to work.

That's at least what he had answered the enraged "WHERE THE HECK ARE YOU COMING FROM, PRINCESS?!?" of Lithium, owner of the infamous Microforce Corporation, with a smile after she entered her office and found the pale Skydancer sitting on the visitor's chair.
She HAD been expecting him, thats true, but neither that soon nor that suddenly. An especially not in her office without warning, how scandalous.

But oh well, the sooner the better. And the stranger's soft but deeply respectful demeanor actually managed to calm the irascible albino mirror's rage, saving him from starting his first day at the new workplace with a beating, something that's really not that uncommon. For a worldwide renowned genius biochemist, Lithium is quite savage. But like all megalomaniacs with world domination dreams, she sure does like being treated with the admiration for a queen, and thus the honey-tongued Aster was already on her good side (or let's just be honest and call it her slightly less bloodthirsty side) when they arrived in the main laboratories later, where she loudly announced that the entomologist was now here and everyone better treated him well or she'd nail them to the wall.

And then she left, and Aster found himself in front of fifty strangers, staring at him with varying degrees of scepticism. No wonder, for the skydancer in his elegant pastel attire, starry baby-blue eyes and the sweet smile couldn't stand in a more stark contrast to the grizzled, obviously more than just a tad shady (or downright unsettling) researchers of sornieth's biggest bioweapon manufacturer. Who mostly look like they took it as a challenge to look as much like the mad scientist stereotype as possible.
"Well, a pleasure to meet all of you, I've already heard so much about your work that i must admit im more than just a bit excited to work with you! So, where's the bees ?"

That sentence probably served as the most accurate description of Aster currently available. The insect specialist is of an extremely calm but sweet temperament, driven by neverending enthusiasm for his work, and absolutely obsessed with bees to an almost unsettling degree.
He has recently joined the company to support them in a project that involves working with bees , since the company doesn't have its own entomologist at hand currently (lithium may or may not have accidentally decapitated the last one in a fit of rage). He's not officially an employee, but an independent partner, leased to lithium by the Dawnfall Collective, an elusive and powerful crime syndicate that shows great interest in the company's work and is their best customer since the very start. Before the project had started, Lithium had searched heaven and hell to find a specialist who'd be able to live up to her insanely high standarts, but all in vain. Until Smoke, the contact man from the Collective, had heard of the problem by coincidence and offered Lithium to talk to his superiors, who'd definitely be able to get her just the brilliant mind she needed.
And just a negotiation and two days later, Lithium had found Aster sitting in her office, and the research for the project had started the same evening.

First thing Aster had done was throwing out the plastic boxes in which the test insects were stored, and all of the people present in the lab. When he allowed them back in the next day, they were mindboggled. the entire room had somehow transformed into a jungle. Walls covered in masterfully decorated terrariums and overgrown with white-blooming vines, beds with various plants everywhere, and, most irritating-a myriad of bees freely swarming the room. And Aster on his desk, bees crawling all over him while he gently held an unusually fuzzy specimen on his finger, gently powdering it with a white substance while gently promising he wouldn't hurt it.
Because honestly, Aster is all fine with researching how to spread dragon-killing viruses, BUT he draws the line at insect cruelty, for...some reason. He only agrees to include bees in said disease-spreading program as long as the bees would be treated well and not get harmed in the process. But his ideas and methods proved both extremely effective AND cost saving, so the other scientists just rolled their eyes at the strange insect man and went along with it.

He stayed even after his help with the bee-spread virus wasn't needed anymore, he proved too innovative and useful for lithium to let him go. Much to his pleasure, because he has already begun to get attached to his new colleagues, and vice versa, even tho the others all agree hes kinda creepy. He's free to do whatever project he comes up with, as long as its somehow profitable. Currently hes training a special breed of genetically engineered spiders to install tiny spy cameras on unsuspecting dragons, and breeds flies with a venomous bite.In his free time, he helps the company's head toxicologist, Sanur, in the greenhouse with all the poisonous plants, or tends to his personal hive of bees, unusually fuzzy, pearly white animals the size of a walnut. He artificially enhanced their lifespan up to ten years just because he always got so sad when one of them died. He also makes artful technical replacements for random bees and butterflies who lost a leg or wing. Sometimes he just goes off on month-long journeys to study various insects all over sornieth , and mostly brings home some rare crawlies.
Much to the horror of most of his lab partners, the liquid seen sloshing around in his translucent underside is actual honey, which he uses to feed his bees like a bird mum feeds her chicks. They're not sure if that's somehow a natural anomaly or a result of questionable self-experimenting (the answer is both, tbh) , but they vehemently refused Aster's offer to try some. Understandable, i guess.

Lately, Aster has adopted a son & heir , even tho he actually...really doesn't like people, despite his sweet demeanor. It just happened. He has no idea how, but he knows its because they're both sharing their life & mind with a swarm of insects, like come on its impossible to overlook that family similarity!
