Day One: Gratitude

Nezumi sat atop their lair as she watched Mouse dance and play with their hatchlings. He stood tall and used his wings to lift himself a few meters off the ground as their hatchlings squealed with delight and tried to imitate his motions even through the gusts of air that nearly knocked them over. Though the grief over her long lost clan sat heavy in her heart, watching the family she built up from shattered and broken remnants run around so happily helped to ease the ache of mourning. She and Mouse had taken comfort in their shared past but now they may raise crows who know not of the struggles their bloodline has faced and may travel the world without the ever present feeling of non-belonging and deceit.

They are eternally grateful that of their first nest, three eggs proved viable and that their children may carry on their legacy through many clans and realms in ways that she and Mouse never could. This nest marked the beginning of a new Era where crows of light wings and soft eyes may live among the common crow once again.

Day Two: Clan

Hokori shifted his gaze away from the still-scorching glare of the setting sun. Betulla hummed alongside him as they trodded along to their next destination. Tired from a long day of flying through Haypy's Roost, their hatchlings slept soundly on their backs. They were still young, but in time they would depart from the group to find their new clans and possibly start a new family of their own. Bosco was one of the few who chose to remain a Nomad. He flew away every month or so to reunite with past crows who he couldn't shake from his feathers but time, time and time again he returned. This time he came back with a hatchling of his own. She slept soundly in his arms as she was too young to ride on their backs. Hokori knew she would not stay with their clan, but he still watched his granddaughter in awe as their day's journey began to draw to an end.

He and Betulla had come from strong crow clans who thrived in the desert regions or Sornieth. Their wings blended in smoothly with the drifting sand and his markings matched the dried up flowers on the wilting cacti. They were proud of their heritage but beyond belief and excitement to see how vastly different their grandchildren were. Some had wings as white as the clouds above while others had wings like freshly bloomed flowers. Many did not stay with their clan but it was still so joyous to have them when they were around.

Day Three: Free

Dansu readied himself eagerly waiting for Betulla to give the signal. His talons scratched at the surface on the rock edge before him as he prepared to take his running start. Beside him, Betulla nodded and without another moment to spare Dansu pushed himself into the air, his feet lightly tapping the stone as he used his wings to assist running. Reaching the edge of the cliff face, he gave one last push before he was in the open air.

Circling closely above, Betulla spotted him in case he fell. He'd been here a few months now but only last week had he gone through his first molt and his new flight feathers grew back in. They had been clipped when he was a hatchling. This was only his 3rd time flying and while he still couldn't do a proper take off, he was thrilled to experience the joy of flying and the freedom he had in the air.

Day Four: Dance

Dansu knew he had been brought into this new clan for his dancing. He came from a strong bloodline of powerful and skillful dancers and had shown great prospect since his first lesson. Dancing was a great passion of his, but he lacked joy in spotlight. He did not enjoy being the center of attention and gawked at but feared that would be his fate as Soma guided him to a large open area where many other Albinos stood.

He shuffled to the middle of the stage and awaited instruction, hoping to delay his performance as long as possible. Betulla walked over to him and pushed him gently with her wing. "Alright, let's get this bread. Show us some basics, little dance man"
Seemingly aware of the confusion on his face, she smiled "Oh what? You thought you came here to perform little shows for us to gawk at like your old clan? Nope. You, my little friend, are going to teach us the art of dancing. We've seen you dance with your sisters and we want to dance like that as well"
Dansu looked up at her, and then looked around at all the eager faces of the albinos and to Soma's reassuring smile. He raised his head high and had a newfound sense of pride, "Okay. Yeah, I think I can do that"

Day Five: Effluvial

Nezumi and Mouse trodded lightly into the lair of the Albino clan they came upon. Unlike the Effluvial clans they had visited where there seemed to be a sense of royalty and hierarchy, the Albino clan laid itself bare for what it is. Their leader, Soma, welcomed them with a curt smile but her soft eyes gave herself away. Her mate matched her gentle cream wings and sharpened claws. Nezumi looked around and pondered why there were no other Effluvials. This was an Albino clan but there were Melanistic crows as well. Soma stepped forward.
"You come from an ancient Effluvial clan that reined this many years before we arrived. We have seen the aftermath of their last stand. You and your mate are welcome here in the lands that belonged to your ancestors for as long as you wish."
Nezumi's mind flooded with questions, how did they know? What did they find? Was our clan really destroyed? She turned to Mouse who was smiling sadly as he gazed as the ground. The ground his family once walked before they had been separated. Mouse had run and run as far as he could when the fighting had started. His mother urged him to go and he said what would be his last goodbyes before he left. He and Nezumi were united in their relief to finally have found a crow who will tell them what happened to their clan.

Day Six: Frantic

Betulla soared across the desert plains, heart pounding in her chest. She frantically scoured the sands for any sign of her son. Hokori was flying lower to the ground. This was their first nest and they already lost their son. Betulla was worried he may have gone to harpy's roost, the harpys don't usually like crows snooping around their land, she still had a scar from the last time she challenged a flock of harpies. But putting her fears aside, she flew towards the heart of their roost.
She squinted her eyes towards a small gathering of harpies, they seemed to surround something. Faintly, she heard Bosco's laughter and her heart launched into overdrive as she dove down to get her son. The group of Mesacliff harpies parted for her to reveal Bosco sitting in a pile of flowers, with a beautiful tangle of them around his horns. The harpies snickered and flew off, with a younger one waving as she left. Sighing, Betulla lifted Bosco onto her back and flew off to find Hokori.

Day Seven: Variant

Soma flew towards the pair of Effluvials, eyeing her warily. Clans around this area were not too fond of other varients. She had come on behalf of the two Melanistic crows that had come to seek shelter in her clan, fearing attack from the Effluvials Northeast of them. Two other albinos from her clan were hidden out of sight but ready to intervene.
Immediately upon landing on the ground, one of the crows lunged at her. She quickly knocked him off balance, because as strong as they were they lacked the training Soma's clan had. The other Effluvial looked at her friend and back to Soma, she seemed to reconsider. Soma signaled the other two albinos to come out, and hissed, "This land belonges to all of us. If I see you harassing other Variants again, we will see to it that you leave and never return"

Day Eight: Enemy

Dansu ran as fast as he could through the undergrowth. His wings clashed against the bushes and he stumbled downhill, trying to create as much distance between them as possible. Still, her faded cream feathers carried her smoothly above the trees, tracking him even with the brush obscuring him from sight. Without warning, the slope abruptly came to an end and sent Dansu tumbling into a ditch. Soma swooped down as he landed. Instead of brandishing her sharp claw rings or taking him back to the clan, Soma sat down next to him.
"I know you're scared, little dancer, but we are not your enemy. It's hard to move clans, especially so young, I understand what that's like. Please talk to us when you're scared, I promise we can help. There's no need to run."
