Biography
Dexter would say that it was a lonely road that he walked, but the problem was, he wasn't walking on it. He was barely treading water, so to speak, since he was trapped within a computer program. He didn't know what had befallen his body and he wasn't liable to find out any time soon. As it was, his only window into the world was Leon and what a pitiful window that was.
For one thing, Leon only told him what he needed to hear in order to outsmart Matilda. Dexter didn't know much about Matilda's plight, but it sounded considerably worse than what he'd seen when he'd had a body. Moreover, Leon's increasing desperation made Dexter wish he could just talk to Matilda. He was positive that if he had a heart to heart with her, he'd be able to sort things out. In the very least, he could talk to her about her erratic behavior.
That assumed that Leon was telling the truth. Everything within Dexter said that he was, but Dexter's perspective was firmly rooted in whatever Leon told him and only Leon. No one else spoke with him. Steven didn't even know he was trapped in a computer. He probably thought Dexter was dead.
Dexter had made several requests to Leon to bring him to Matilda, Steven, and his family so he could at least say his goodbyes, but Leon had brushed him off. Leon had a one-track mind and nothing could've pushed him away from his goals. It was maddening.
Worse, Dexter was having an existential crisis. Was he really who he thought he was? What was he now, anyway? Was he just a composite of binary? Or computer language? He remembered jumping and winding up here. Did that mean that his programming wasn't the same as the version he'd uploaded to the laptop? Was there any way out? If Leon was capable of it, could he drag Dexter back? Was it possible or had Dexter thoroughly screwed himself over?
