Biography

A guard who patrols the city's underground regions.

Cain likes to work solo and isn't afraid of dirt. He was therefor the only Spireguard to volunteer for a post in the sewers, catacombs and collapsed tunnels. Together with his owl, an old gaslamp and his trusted sword the bogsneak keeps the city's underbelly safe from monsters and lingering curses.

Cain is an older dragon who arrived at the Spires while looking for work. He'd been living in the forests and swamps just south of the Highlands, but longed for a somewhat more luxurious life. No longer a young dragon, Cain knew that he'd need the aid of others sooner or later, even if he liked living in the wilderness. He decided to head out and find a clan to work for so that he could make his new home in their vicinity. The Spires turned out to be the perfect community for him.

Cain is quite cheerful and polite, often engaging in a chat with dragons who pass by his guardhouse in the sewers. When he's on his own he can be heard constantly talking to his Wildwood Owl companion or to himself. Cain is a practical dragon who values efficiency. He's the kind of person you want to help you out in a crisis, as he keeps his head cool and doesn't get distracted. Part of his duties is rescuing dragons who've gotten themselves lost in the maze of old tunnels.
Much of this layer of the city hasn't been renovated or cleansed of magic, making it very dangerous to explore, even for experts. It's low on the Council's list of projects, but the more time Cain spent down there the more he's become convinced that something needs to be done. The old catacombs and tunnels serve as the upper city's foundation and the more they collapse, the more unstable the buildings become. As Cain is all by himself he hasn't had much success in getting the Council's attention. Most dragons in the Spires consider him an eccentric old loner and don't take his word very seriously.
