Biography
Hibernal Lair

Despite his sense of humor, Barrayar was born with depression. Living every day is a struggle for him, and yet few realize this. He covers his struggles with a mask of humor, forever cursed to live as comedic relief. He was never particularly successful, losing two mates and eventually giving up and leaving his lair. He constantly questions himself and those around him, finding it difficult to trust others. He lived as a wanderer for a long time, and thought he was searching for something that could bring him peace. He wasn't very successful in that endeavor either, leading to more problems and self doubt. He met Ayla while he was lost in the Viridian Labyrinth, and after a considerable amount of convincing on his part, she led him out of the Labyrinth and back to the Bleeding Lair. He was convinced he was in love with her until he discovered that she didn't live in the Lair full time, and she had no interest in potential mates. His self esteem dropped further and he lost the energy to leave. Although they were sympathetic towards him, he clearly didn't fit in with the other dragons in the clan. He felt awkward and out of place among the elegant reds and blacks, the dark horror stories of their pasts and what he felt was "real" mental illness. He settled into what may as well be hibernation, lacking the energy to do much more than sleep until he met Rohul. Similar to him, Rohul seemed different than the rest of the lair, always slightly out of place. The more time he spent with them, they slowly gained each other's trust. |
