ABOUT
‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾
▾ In the Galehart clan, great importance is placed on food, and the act of sharing meals. Guests and travelers are always well-fed before going on their ways, and relationships with nearby draconic lairs and beastclans are maintained by generous sharing of the season's harvest, exchange of recipes, and communal meals. So far, the Galeharts have managed to live for a few generations in the cursed Cairnstone Mountains without conflict with the region's undead residents, largely in part by maintaining the cairns in their territory and offering fresh food to the spirits' altars during each holiday to keep them placated.
▾ Though the Galehart's gift economy and social structure is largely based around mutual sustenance, they are not a particularly agricultural clan. Most of their food is foraged, hunted, or bartered rather than grown, with the exceptions of a few well-tended food and herb gardens near the clan's capital. One of these is a farm known as August's Gift, tended by a tundra named Serotine. ▾ August's Gift is a humble operation. It began as a small food garden meant only to sustain the small number of other dragons that live and work the land nearby. It sits nestled in the grassy, rolling foothills of the Cairnstone range, hemmed in by an orchard on one side, beehives on another, and the Long Rest River at its back, providing irrigation and filling the drinking wells year round. But as more and more people travel the Long Rest Road, stopping by this friendly oasis to rest and restock supplies, Serotine decided to expand the garden into a fully operational vegetable farm. ▾ Here, Serotine grows all sorts of produce year round. Crops are rotated frequently to keep the soil fresh, so it's always a surprise what they'll be offering at their stand come harvest time. They're a friendly dragon, a good neighbor, and they're skilled at what they do, which keeps those who live in the nearby valleys returning season after season. They don't feel particularly duty-bound as a farmer, like they're upholding some higher obligation, they just enjoy being able to feed people well, and to take care of the land they live on for future generations.
