with a mind as deft as her talons, buckwheat is songbird keep’s jack of all trades. find some trinkets you’d like to fashion into jewelry? have a lute due for a good tuning? the roof of your den in need of a patching up? this capricious tundra is the one to seek out. better find her quick; by noon, her little corner of the subordinate cave is a busy, busy place to be. unlike many of buckwheat’s close friends, however, she’s rather terrible in the area of magic, despite the clan’s strong tradition of it. as a hatchling, buckwheat simply never caught on. so, lend her your time to trill an enchantment song or two whenever she needs the help, and she’ll be glad to help with whatever you need fixing in turn. while rather easily befriended, buckwheat can be especially prickly when first met. winning her favor is as simple as slipping her a trinket for her projects from time to time, but in the meantime, you’ll be privy to many stilted conversations and tense silences. it isn’t arrogance or pride that makes her this way, however. her closed-off nature is a result from her issues surrounding trust, stemming all the back from her father’s abandonment of her family as a child. he was a traveling minstrel having a period of residence in the keep- but when faced with the responsibility of hatchlings, he was unable to commit, and the clan found his nest empty come a few tense days later. as the oldest of her siblings, and thus the most cognizant of what had happened, the event sparked a deeply seated anxiety in the tundra that she hasn’t been able to shake off since, the fear she wasn’t good enough; not for him, and not for anyone else. she began finally banishing this fear when quail entered her life as her most prominent hatchlinghood friend, and later mate. it’s a difficult process, but despite what her prickliness may suggest, she’s trying her hardest to be more open towards others. slow progress, certainly, but with quail’s help progress nonetheless. |
