So far away, across the realm in the Icewarden's domain, but oh, what a place—the perfect bastion of order and safety, where duty was revered and upheld. Tales of fierce winds and biting ice left her awestruck; too often had her shaggy coat proven a hindrance in the warm fields of the Sunbeam Ruins. One day, she told herself, she'd be just like the brave gaolers serving in those dark prisons. And one day, in a bit of childish impulse and a sense of adventure alike, she wandered off from her birth clan and dared to venture into the Tangled Wood. The darkness clung to her like oil; the thickness of the trees obscured her path behind and before her. Before long, she was lost. Before long, she heard the sound of buzzing. Terrified, she clung to her lantern, as if the light could shield her from this strange, unknown sound—but all around her was the gleaming of eyes, and the buzzing of insect wings, and their strange, hypnotic dance… The swarm of Veilspun, drawn to her by the sparkle of her lantern's light, led her through the Wood for days on end. Dazed by their hypnotic movements, she could have wandered far longer were it not for the intervention of a dragon from her clan who had come looking for her. The experience shook her. She still clings close to her lantern to this day—a symbol of her element and what she felt gave her protection through the dark—but the sight of even a single Veilspun's glittering eyes alighting upon that lantern is enough to terrify her even today. code by milkchai |
