Biography
Heart of Stone
Matrix was always a friend of the shadows. They welcomed her with open arms, and they never betrayed her. With them she was hidden from the world, away from the ridicule and the shunning. They became her friends, and in return, she turned over her heart to them.
Matrix watched silently as two of her tribe mates fought in a vicious battle. Many others were gathered around them, watching the spectacle. She didn’t even have to see the fight to know that blood was being spilled. The sharp scent of iron filled her nostrils. It was an all too familiar scent. Disgusted, she turned away and retreated farther back into the dense shrub beneath the weeping willow. Matrix felt the ground beneath her until she found a cluster of roots. She trailed her claws along them gently, taking in the scent of the tree, before yanking yard on the biggest root. A granite plate slid out from a near invisible slit in the side of the willow. Checking to make sure no one was looking, Matrix stepped onto the plate and leapt forward. She extended her wings for balance, and just as she knew she would, landed on a thick branch. She crept forward towards the trunk of the tree and saw a curtain of moss. She pushed it aside and stepped into the space before her. This was home.
