Born in the Wavedancer's clan, Jiangyu grew up surrounded by loving and supportive dragons. Even her grandparents Razor and Tigerclaw were supportive of her learning how to fight. When she was old enough she decided to train with two of her friends, Acamapichtli and Eridani. Together the three of them slogged through battle after battle, becoming stronger and stroner. Even though Pearlcatchers were predominantly mages, she knew she wanted to be a melee fighter. She watched as her father, Swifttalon and all of her hatch mates left to join the Tidelord. However, she remained and became one of the first dragons in the lair to form the core defense.

She is extremely loyal not only to her mate, Keelan, but also Permafrost, Shyrza and Shadow. When Wavedancer and Skywing returned, she extended her loyalty to them. She will defend the lair to the death, if she has to, knowing that the safety of those within was of the utmost importance. She is also very supportive of the other dragons in the lair, helping out when she can to either train, gather resources or scout, depending on what is needed of her. As more and more dragons gained fighting, and magical, prowess, she left the active battlefield to help guard the inner lair's storehouse of food and treasure. Rarely will she see action, but she always keeps her skills honed practicing with Acamapichtli and Eridani, who she has affectionately nicknamed Aca and Eri, while gaining the nickname Jiang from them. Being the oldest of the three, she is sometimes seen as their big sister and does think of Aca and Eri as her little brothers, even though they are not related.

When not fighting or on guard duty, she helps fill the ranks of the Tidelord's army by producing many, many clutches of eggs with Keelan. She knows the honor exalting will bring to not just the lair, but also to their offspring and she is more than happy to help. Any of her children who wish to stay are accepted as well and allowed to chose their own path in life, finding some sort of profession to take part in.
