B I O G R A P H Y

A pile of black sludge that dredged itself up from the bottom of the Leviathan Trench. After getting caught in current after current, the liquidy pile found itself off the coast of the Arcane region and learned as it grew; 'feasting' on dead marine life corpses. It watched the dragons that studied the water and learned how to use magic. It began fabricating its own experiments on crystals it found growing in a coral reef and found that with the right crystals in the right places on its body, it could become relatively solid and pass for a dragon. After completing its experiments in the marine biosphere, the conglomeration grew hungry. Finally, the time came for the pile of ooze to finalize its last experiment. A young student swam close enough to its' domain and found themself consumed by the inky blackness. The puddle dragged its prey into the shadows and analyzed. One week later, a swirling black form shuffled out of the waves and examined themselves. They cracked a shark-toothed smile as they shambled towards the city.

After passing as a new student, the pile eventually employed the use of a name it liked, seeing as people needed something to use to refer to it. Once it had gained all the knowledge it needed through both learning and the use of its ability to absorb organic material, it disappeared from the university after realizing the faculty was beginning to become suspicious of it. It took with it the university's founder and head scientist before it quickly returned to the sea and traveled inland, looking for more knowledge to reap.

The longer you stare at her, the more Jiiko's 'skin' shifts and swirls like iridescent oil. The enchanted gems embedded in its gloopy form are what keep her mostly solid. She can shift and change her form almost at will, though it's very slow since it has to work to keep the gems from hindering it as it morphs. She smells of decay and rotten blood, making one wonder if she isn't just a waterlogged corpse that was reanimated by pure spite for whoever dumped it in the sea.

▸ Baroness Castelle de Di'Aque: The lead Water scientist who founded the university near the waterfront the pile of slime originated from. Her knowledge is what the creature mainly uses as its knowledge of the current world. It has also adopted her posture and grace, finding that it's not dissimilar from how it wants to present itself.

____On the first page, words and broken sentences are scratched in various substances onto pages that were clearly submerged at some point. As the pages go on, the writing gets clearer and more erudite with the eventual change to a single substance used for ink, and the pages quit appearing to have been waterlogged.

____16 Gathered enough crystals to go on land with almost no consequences. Used wet kelp and seaweed for cover so didn't dry out.

____25 Time has come. Correct crystals gathered. Tired of caution. New goal; lure dragon, devour and grow, use bones for structure, flesh for substance, take shape, fit into garments so don't dry out. Time for next stage. Must execute quickly.

____56 I've been recruited into a group of warriors whose stupidity shows very clearly. Apparently I've been appointed as lead mage of the group of six now including myself. Their leader must have a death wish if she expects me to defend and possibly even heal her.

____62 I began training with the silent one known as Haarka. They don't try to communicate with me and I haven't bothered with trying to speak to them. During the previous night's regiment, they were very badly injured and I saw what lay under their thick coverings. Perhaps I'm not the only one of my kind in this abhorrently sunny landscape.

____64 I shouldn't have gotten my hopes up, the subject Haarka is... primal, to say the least. After sharing that I too am in essence an abomination, they've opened up to me slightly and have begun attempting to communicate-- albeit with growls and hisses, but perhaps that's the only way they know how.

____73 Haarka and I have officially begun working together. Noctbloom stated that we work exceptionally well as a team and she has decided to begin giving us jobs to do in a hostile place known as the Forbidden Portal. We've been given the directions that we are to go there multiple times within the coming week and learn how to hold our own against whatever aberrations abide there, then she will start sending dragons with us to learn from our fighting techniques. Perhaps I'll make the excuse that we lost one of them and have a snack if Haarka and I find a charge annoying.
