Velvet cleaned the shop, sweeping every corner, wiping each table, until they were clean as ocean glass. The empty bottles on the wall were all replaced, and the mosaic on the wall had new shards added to it. A brown and red Coatl walked in, causing the bell on the door to jingle.

They asked "Sorry, are you open?" which Velvet thought was a very stupid question to ask, there was a broom right in the corner of the room, and what type of shop cleaned in the middle of their opening time? So she shook her head no. The Coatl sighed and walked out.

She was curious about the Coatl, and stopped him by saying "Wait. What's your name? I can have something prepared for you in the morning, if you'd like." His wings fluttered a bit as he stopped himself from walking out. He nodded and turned toward her.

"I'd like a, uh, a muffin. Orange pieces on it. Is that, um, okay? And I'm Ferocia." His speech wasn't as fluid when he wasn't looking at her. How cute... he seemed a little rude before, but not anymore. She thought. She gladly agreed to bake it for him, and when he left, she leaned against the door with a smile on her face. Her heart pounded fast, and she wondered how she'd managed not to embarrass herself. She opened her eyes and looked down to the floor, where a brown feather sat. She picked it up, and remembered an old tale her mother sang to make her sleep. Her heart beat a little faster.

Velvet walked into Virdyle's cave, knocking on the wall a bit to prepare him. He jumped and tilted his head in question. Virdyle never spoke, but he sure listened. Velvet said "Do you know where Ferocia lives? I need to drop something off for him." He looked in surprise and nodded his head. He picked up a pile of flashcards on his desk and held up ones with Snow, Orca, a green spiral, and Ferocia on them. "He'll be with them?" She asked. He shook his head and pointed at one of his work in progress weavings. She guessed "He.. wears.. that? I doubt it.. uh, you made that, job?" He clapped his paws excitedly and nodded yes at the last one. "He's a leader. Oh.. Way out of my league, then." She said. Virdyle sighed roughly, and looked at her with disappointment.

She had no idea what that look was supposed to mean, but she was determined to deliver it as close as possible. She set out from his cave and walked towards the Barren Forest. She never liked the place, but it was worth it. Even though Ferocia made her plates all shake in nervousness, he also made her feel warm and nice inside. Even thinking about him now made her sigh in wonder. As she arrived, she looked at the flock of crows sitting on the stall in front of her. This was.. why she didn't like the place. Crows were bad luck, right?

After she had fallen in love a thousand times, it was much easier to recognize. She was almost sure this was it now. And these crows didn't forecast anything good for that. Her spirits slumped at the thought. Why would they keep so many crows with their reputation?
