Biography
Cherubim ; Beautiful | Courageous | Violent ; Fernweh
Aretha has lost her head. One of them. As a Cherub she has four heads; the head of an eagle, an ox, a lion and a human. Each of these heads help Aretha with her Cherubim duties. Every Cherub is assigned a world with sapient life to guard. They are to do everything within their power to prevent supernatural forces from interfering with their planet.
With the power of the eagle a Cherub is able to see from a great distance for threats. With the power of the ox the Cherub is given the strength to rival any enemy. With the head of the lion the Cherub is able to scent any threat hidden from their eyesight. And with the head of the human the Cherub has the power of language and logic. They are given a voice to reason with sapient enemies and find common ground so that no bloodshed is needed.
Aretha has lost her human head, stripping her of her voice. But when a Cherub loses a head, it is not only the power given to them by the head that they lose, but part of their consciousness. Without her fourth head Aretha's thoughts are muddled and confused. Her senses are overwhelmed. Her memories are fragmented or missing. She cannot understand the words of her fellow angels anymore. She does not understand who she is, and what it is she is supposed to be doing.
All she knows is that she is in pain, and that she is very scared. And with the powers of her remaining heads, that makes her a danger.
Aretha was a good Cherub. She was good at what she did and she was proud to protect her planet. She had successfully protected her planet for billions of years from countless of dangers. She grew affectionate watching the creatures below her go about their lives, and she enjoyed learning about them. she even picked up the pronouns she/her from one species because she enjoyed the way the words sounded when she was called them.
She was in the good graces of other angels as well. Fellow Cherubs aspired to be just like her, and she knew the Seraph Yetunth well. It was Yetunth who told her to guard her planet. Even though Aretha was only in Yetunth's presence briefly, she would occasionally be sent messages from them. The messages were usually brief and often they were of Knowledge that the Creators had permitted Yetunth to share with her. But every so often Aretha would receive a message that puzzled her. The messages were puzzling because they didn't seem to be important. They reminded her of the pointless things that the mortals on her planet would do. Although she didn't understand these purposeless messages, they made her feel similar to how she felt when she successfully fought off an enemy away from her planet.
Everything went wrong when a being Aretha could not sense ambushed her. This creature took hold of her human head and before she could make sense of what was happening to her she saw Yetunth for the first time since she was assigned to watch over her planet. She heard Yetunth shout, an earsplitting noise and then felt as the enemy creature ripped her human head off of her. She remembered feeling like every molecule in her body was dissolving. She remembered the wet feeling of her blood splashing over her and over Yetunth's feathers. She remembered the glow of her silver blood as it floated in the vacuum of space.
The memories of the incident are now scattered, but she can't get Yetunth out of her mind. She knows she needs to find them. She hopes that they will help her make sense of things. The other angels tried to hold her back. They tried to chain her. They tried to keep her contained. But she broke free. She couldn't understand them, but if she could she would know that she was considered broken. She was defective. And that it was being debated if she should continue to exist.
Now she is in Sornieth. And she has already caused destruction.
