Scorpio was once a wizard but now has turned into a warlock. Not exactly out of his own choice, but that tends to happen when a soul of a lich decides that your body is a good host. However, what the lich didn't expect, is the sheer resistance Scorpio put up, preventing the lich fully taking over. His appearance got altered, but Scorpio is mainly in control.

The Guild still considered that Scorpio would be too dangerous if he slipped up or the lich took control when he was sleeping. It could have catastrophic consequences. But if they killed the lich, they would also lose Scorpio, who has been a valuable member of the Guild for a long time. And if he felt threatened, he could just let the lich take full control to escape.

So, the Guild had Scorpio make a pact with the lich. It wasn't a good solution but would give the Guild time to prepare for a better plan. Scorpio knows that it probably won't end well for him, that how no matter what, both he and his newly found lich friend will get perished. He might be a valuable member of the Guild, but not valuable enough to keep a lich alive for long.

But it's all fine. Scorpio is prepared to fight for his life.
