”Siproeta stelenes is a neo-tropical brush-footed butterfly. The malachite has large wings that are black and brilliant green or yellow-green on the upper-side and light brown and olive green on the underside. It is named for the mineral malachite, which is similar in color to the bright green on the butterfly's wings.”
I wonder... were you truly as beautiful as the stone tablets said? Really as kind? Is it true your looks were fit for a king?
..........
I wish I could have seen it. At least now, you are beautiful in a different way. Forever standing, forever preserved. I wonder if you’ve forgotten what it means to be....... now that you are eternally still.

{Biography}
Back when he was still alive, Malachite was quite the looker when compared to the average Banescale. He just had a radiance about him not found much anywhere else, intricate patterns mesmerizing and shining filigree scales delicately beautiful. Even though he wasn't a Fire dragon, it didn't stop many of his Banescale brethren from courting him. Truth be told, Malachite could have had anyone he wanted. But he didn't want just anyone. He only had eyes for Azotic.
They had met after a particularly ferocious battle against the warring Gaolers. Malachite offered to help Azotic as she recovered from a rather grievous wound, stumbling over his words and bumbling around like a newborn hatchling. Azotic found him adorable, and was charmed by this clumsy dragon. The two got to get to know each other for a while, falling in love more and more. But it could not last long. The two were still in war. And Azotic, just as good as fighting the Ice as any Fire dragon, was on the front lines on their final and most brutal battle. Not graced with a natural resistance to the cold, Malachite was forced to hang back and fight at a distance. He launched attack after magical attack at their adversaries, dodging twice as many. He watched his comrades be struck and fall lifeless, and he was filled with sickly worry for his beloved.
He only saw the living snowstorm after more then half of their numbers had been consumed by its wrath. All at once, he knew surviving would be impossible. Not knowing if Azotic still remained alive after charging in headfirst, Malachite knew he had one last objective. One last chance to protect what was dear to him. Tears streaming from his face, he rushed back to the community nursery, searching for the clutches that he and Azotic had lain. Their eggs were weak, that was true, none having hatched yet-- but he could not give up on this final chance. Malachite found his eggs at last-- alone. He was the only one there. No other elders had come to help him. As the storm and the following Gaolers charged forth, Malachite stretched out his wings and tried to cover his eggs as best he could. He dusked his head, and whispered one last prayer to Flamecaller for his beloved to be alright. His back to the storm, eyes closed, he did not see the end when it finally came.
{Trivia}
- Malachite is not as frozen as Azotic, so though he's much more mobile, taking care of his effigy is admittedly much more difficult for Praell. Despite the filthy fur, scratched-up bones, and frozen flesh rotting beneath the surface, Praell tries to make him look good by adorning him with golden trinkets and decorations. Unfortunately, all of the better jewelry she puts on him tends to get... stained.

L E T T E R
They gave their life for us.
Wrapped their wings around our eggs, sheltered us from the bitter cold. They sacrificed their warmth so that we may live on. Spread our wings, fly into the sun. I wonder what they looked like before the end? They were in love, had so many of us... I hope one day to find the rest of my siblings. Maybe with your colors I can put together the pieces? But for now, I keep what’s left. Mother, a statue of ice. Father, fragments held together by glued bone. I will find my brothers and sisters. No matter who we fight for, we will always be blood. Would you proud of what I have done? To your remnants? I think you look beautiful like this. Forever encased in ice. Though it claimed your lives, it also captured your visage so that it would not rot. You will never come back, but that’s okay. You’re still here. With me. I’ll find them all for you. I’ll bring them back. We will all live together, whole even in pieces. Our fragments will fit together beautifully. I love you, mother, father. I hope you love me too. ---Your heir |
