Erlen

Erlen was one of the handsomest dragons in the clan.
Females were drawn to him like flies to honey, falling over each other in their pursuit of him. Everyone expected him to settle down with a beautiful Skydancer mate and a herd of handsome little dragonets.
Then he pinned up two pieces of paper.
One in his room, a long vow, and one in the clan notice board.
He had chosen to remain mateless.
He had taken the Loveless Vow.
The Vow to never take a mistress, mate, or lover till he met the one he truly loved.
Females and males were trampled by each other as they clamored to prove themselves to him, prove they were worthy of love. This just furthered his reasoning.

Yes, Erlen wanted children! Yes, he wanted a mate! But not this way. Not by a mob of lovers trying to worm their way into his heart like a parasite. When asked why they loved him, they said his looks, when pressed for info, all they could cough up was that well.....he was cool so yeah, they should want him. This tidal wave of faceless and unreasonable love made him recede from his public life.
He wore hoods, avoided cities, traveled at night.
