Grandmaster Seer
Old Norse name Ketill meaning "kettle, cauldron" (later also acquiring the meaning "helmet"). In old Scandinavian rituals the ketill was used to catch the blood of sacrificed animals.

B I O G R A P H Y

Ketill can trace her lineage back to Kanabo herself. If the genealogy charges painstakingly drawn up and updated aren’t enough to convince, her nebulous, Garnet wings leave no doubts. From the moment she hatched, it was clear she was going to follow in the footsteps of her great ancestress.

She would say that nothing would have pleased her more, but as Grandmaster of the Seers, she really can’t say anything else. Ketill doesn’t speak of her childhood, where she struggled to break away from tradition or begged her parents to apprentice her to a different profession. Such is unbecoming in a young prophetess. Her fate was to always be to read the fate of others.

While she balked against her apprenticeship, her Master would later claim she had a high aptitude for the profession. Expected in one of her lineage and plumage. In truth, she did have an aptitude to the various skills necessary in the profession. Ketill applied herself to her studies, if only to attain a journeyman rank so she could apprentice elsewhere.

However, the more she learned, the more realized her fate was bound. There would be no other apprenticeship in her future. Only mastery. She read her fortunes many times, each returning that fighting would be utterly futile. Ketill must accept her fate - accept defeat.

So she became Journeyman Seer, and worked to become a Master. In her Journeyman years, she met a young Journeyman Guard named Ansgarr. All the readings stated he was not for her, that any attempt at romance would only end in desperate failure. This time, Ketill ignored them and fought for her own destiny.

She and Ansgarr became mates proper within the year. That same year, she would attain her Master rank and Ansgarr would be tasked by his Grandmaster to a border village. Ketill was sent elsewhere. She suspected it was intentional, to push her to the mate of another’s choosing. She was not having it.

Ketill went to the overlook where Kanabo had her vigil so long ago. However, she was not there to beseech the Plaguebringer’s aid or wisdom. She was there to issue her demands. Her life had been at the whims of fate since she hatched. She had complied, each and every time, accepting her defeat. In this, Ansgarr, she would refuse. He would be hers, and she would be his, or she would not be a Seer. She would not be a Raven.

If the Plaguebringer acceded, it is not known. However, Ketill came back from her vigil determined to keep Ansgarr as her mate. It is said she later had a conversation with the Grandmaster Seer - nearly word-for-word the one she had with the Plaguebringer - but others say the Grandmaster already knew. Regardless, Ansgarr was relocated closer to Ketill.

Now, they are both Grandmasters of their respective professions. Ketill remains vigilant for any who are like her - skilled, but unsatisfied. If she seeks those out for further training and cultivation, to to point them to another path, is unknown. Perhaps neither.
