The sky is clear; the stars are twinkling.

Fjalar had gazed upon them, once, and wondered if he could pluck them from the sky if he wanted it enough. They were the companions that never faltered or disappointed, constant like the rising tide and sinking of the sun come evening, and he was all alone in a world too large for a lonely dragon to find solace in. He did not know where his place was.

But he was always welcomed beneath the stars; always embraced by the moonlight. It caught on glittering glass wings as Fjalar roamed the lands, eyes searching for a place to belong, and heart aching with feelings he could not quite detangle long enough to make sense of.

For he is a dragon made to be amongst others, one that thrives in the crowds. Fjalar bleeds kindness and love, the epitome of a gentle giant, and he wants the chance to share his time with others once more.

(This time, he vows, he will not allow his heart to be broken.)

He sees the shape of her smile in the blooming flowers when winter is conquered by the brightness of spring, hears the chirping birds as they wake before the sun, and wonders if he will ever love anyone as wholeheartedly again. Fjalar wants to, he even prays some nights that he will experience genuine love once more, but he dares not hope.

Fjalar dares not hope, but he does it still, and only time will tell if he will suffer for it.
