Shadow Shaper
A shape moved within the trees. Pale horns, heavy and sharp on a feathered crown, moved in and out of sight. Ethereal moans seemed to follow her, dragging themselves in the wake of every step. Pausing, Taris lifted her head to look deep into the forest, her vision unmarred by tree or creature. With a great heave of her wings, she lifted herself into the sky above -- soundless as an owl, or a ghost. The shades reached to pull her back down, yet their claws collided with invisible walls. 'Why do you run, Taris?' a quivering voice whispered. 'Don't leave us alone - we are family.'

A snarl silenced their cries; she was one with the darkness, one who walked along the barrier of life and death. For a moment she was afraid, for one day her guard would fall, and they would surely take her home.
