Personality
  • Most of the time, he is a servant to his baser instincts. He is hungry often, reacts violently and abruptly, and falls in love quickly.
  • Hates magic. While he won't go out of his way to attack mages, if he witnesses anything of the sort, he won't hesitate to make his dislike of it apparent.
  • Gentle with hatchlings because they remind him of himself before he fell into this way of life. He loves spending time with them- they help him forget the chafing of his shackles and the hunger.

History
The rattling of chains echoed through the tunnels, followed by the whisper of heavy ebon feathers across the hardened earth. Hot breath leaves the banescale, his red eyes flickering around aimlessly. Behind him, his long tail drags like a cobra in the sand. He pauses at the end of the tunnel, his talons gripping the edge of the drop off into the Pit below. Shadows danced in his vision, every movement distracting him. He can't think straight- could he ever? The scent of blood hits him, mixed with bile and rot and the iron of his eternal chains.

The metal around his jaw strains as he huffs in air, gaze rolling back at the influx of information on his senses. A thin, barbed tongue slips out between the vent on his muzzle, moving like a worm in the heady air.

Tastes like home.

His head snaps around as a couple of hatchlings sprint past his claws, giggling as they fly clumsily into the Pit to watch the upcoming challenges. Behind them, a female banescale follows, her deep lavender eyes glaring at him as she passes. Several hatchlings not yet old enough to fly cling to her spines, watching him with interest.

Then they are gone, and he finds his heart pounding at the sweet yet sickly scent that follows in her wake. Without thought, he follows her. Despite the chains, he takes to the air, the echo of the clanking metal resounding around the Pit. He lands heavily on the outcrop with her and the hatchlings, and he settles on his side, waiting. She is wary, gathering the hatchlings beneath her wings with the watchfulness of a mother swan. Beautiful, but vicious.

The Speaker calls him, and he goes to her. The skydancer is small in comparison, he feels he could crush her beneath one talon. But she is not his ticket into this place. This new home.

His challenger is a pearlcatcher. Its magic is strong, chars his feathers with fire and arcane, heats the iron of his chains until it sears his flesh. He catches the other, clips it with his wing and the force of its own weight kills it against the pull of the chain it caught against. His talons sweep up, like a bat hunting a moth, and he tears it to shreds in his talons. Ravenous, he presses his muzzle into the remains, licking up whatever he can through the grates in the iron.

The Speaker calls him, and he goes to her again. She asks his name, and in the dirt he scrawls H a z a r m a v e t h. She nods, welcomes him. The cheering is deafening. The blood is thick in his mouth and his eyes chase the flapping wings and howling bodies. It all tastes like home.

"My animal on your leash now
Teeth tearing my skin apart
The thing that you give becomes me
Break my-y-y-y heart
Chimera you show no mercy
So savage you're breathing fire
You vicious, enchanting monster
Fill my veins with cool desire"

About
The most noticeable thing about Hazarmaveth is the amount of heavy chains hanging from him. Despite this, he still manages to fly, but it is slow. He uses his massive size and wings to catch enemies off guard, occasionally using the chains themselves as extensions to snag those trying to dodge around him. Once he grabs you, it's almost certain doom.

The chains themselves are magically bound to him. A clan of gaolers found him when he was young, and fearing the return of his species but unwilling to kill a youngling, imprisoned him for years. Despite this, he grew strong from dragging around his restraints. It did not take him long once he was fully grown to realize how much he despised his captors. Upon killing his guard, he fled, winding up at the Pit. He fought for his place, and now remains there for safety, fearing the others will hunt him down. He knows however, that one day, he will have to return to break the chains that imprison him.

For now, he lets Wraith experiment with breaking them (failing every time, as he is unfamiliar with the ancient magic of the gaolers). He is very base in his instincts, and struggles to interact with others in a positive way. Impulsive, he reacts poorly to magic and often lashes out. His interactions with Wraith are usually brief because of this.

There is something good in his life, though. Valerie has caught his interest. He will spend hours in the nesting grounds, watching her tend to the hatchlings. He likes the young ones, they like to play in his feathers and don't demand much in the way of words from him.

Trivia
  • His chains are unbreakable due to ancient gaoler magic enchanting them. They hinder his movements occasionally, and catch on outcrops. He has grown physically very strong because of them.
  • He struggles to eat because of the muzzle. His tongue is barbed, and he tends to spend several hours ripping and tearing his meals with it. This was less of a problem when he was younger, with a smaller body to sate.
  • Obviously, he is distrustful towards gaolers. He will avoid them at all costs unless cornered, which usually doesn’t end well.
