Captain of the Guard of the Coelacanth Crew, patroller of the clan's borders and trainer of young would-be guardsdragons everywhere. They always do think they're so tough. An afternoon or two in the Ghostlight Ruins usually spooks that out of them. Spine has fought in every venue known, but the Ruins are his favorite. It is familiar and peaceful, among the spirits. There, he is not the only one to wear the shape of his bones on the outside. For all the talk of magic and souls, spirits and aether, arcana and shadow and the secret, whispering things in the depths of the Trench, a dragon is fundamentally still a living thing, and as far as Spine is concerned, to be alive is to hunt, and to fight. Magic they may be, but still they bleed. There are things that do not bleed, that do not even leak ichor and mist like the spirits of the Ruins, that cannot be touched, that stand more as forces of nature than as foes in a coliseum. But they are not his job - there are others in the clan trained to combat that which cannot die. |
And, well, he is doing his part in that where he can. What he finds in the Ruins, they are Shade-touched. In driving that darkness out, he frees them. It is all he can do. These young upstarts, all his trainees, they think they are going to make a difference in the grandest of battles. And who knows? Perhaps they will. But for now, he will take them under his wing, and he will give them a sword or an axe or a spear, a shield, a helmet, and he will turn them to face the dead, and when they turn away he will spin them right around again, until they raise their blades against that which cannot be seen and walk away victorious into the light. The ones who cannot, he will redirect, set them to gathering or to research or to... whatever it is that Harlequary sets his collection of lab If they struggle to face even these smallest of shadows, he hopes they will never have to come against the Shade. ꙮ Fond of drums, pointy things, old battlefields |
