"Yeah! Basement time!"

______ Styx has a relatively straightforward job at the grocery store, whenever she is called somewhere she has to send someone to the basement. Being sent to the basement is just a consequence for breaking the grocery store rules and someone has to wrangle the unruly customers who are more trouble than they are worth. Usually these orders come directly from Wispy herself yelling in a sing-song tune that someone is going to get sent into the basement, but occasionally other employees have to call Styx over to handle a situation that's very clearly breaking the grocery store rules.

It was not a job for everyone but it was practically made for Styx, she loves the challenge it brings and practically lives for a good fight. Her enthusiasm over sending others to the basement scares off most other employees, but those who take the time to get to know her realise that she is very relaxed about nearly everything. Though most often being friends with her means being her personal pearl-sitter whenever she has to do her job.

"Ugh, I never want to fight an imperial again after this."

______ It was a Thursday in the grocery store, which didn't mean anything special. Styx was spending her time lounging ontop of the shelves. Watching over the customers passing by, going about their days and getting groceries. It has been a while since she had to send someone to the basement but that was to be expected with her job, a lot of waiting with occasional bursts of extreme action. It wasn't something that could be helped and she was mostly hired because apparently her methods were more peaceful compared to what the owner does.

She wasn't one to be inclined to believe rumors so easily, but the ones about the owner had some truth to them. She remembers being called over one day by Wispy to help chase out a rather intimidating imperial. The entire surrounding area was a complete wasteland that was so broken it strained reality itself. Simply just taking a step in made Styx feel sick, which was rare for the survival enthusiast, plague gifted pearlcatcher. It was a type of feeling that grabbed the very core of her being and stretched it and melded it in ways that shouldn't be happening.

However she had to stay true to her life philosophy, don't let anything get in the way of your goals, no matter what. A life philosphy she almost regretted having in that moment when she let her gaze meet that imperials, if looks could kill nobody would have lived to tell the tale. The imperial tightened her grip on the massive rusted weapon she was holding and held it up high, a manic grin adorning her face like she was a hatchling recieving the best present of their life. As swift as it rose the weapon crashed down, barely giving Styx enough time to roll out of the way, the ground shook and shattered with the impact, leaving a sizable crevice in the ground.

So she wanted a fight now? Well, ask and you shall recieve Styx thought to herself in a haughty manner. Readying her own weapon she prepared a battle stance, making sure to never lose sight of the imperial. The air was thick with anticipation waiting for anyone to make a move.

The imperial lunged, swiftly swinging her weapon with clear murderous intent, but still joyful. To dodge the incoming attack Styx quickly flew into the air deciding to use her agility to her advantage. Then retaining the same speed she slammed directly into the imperial. She still had to be careful not to hurt anyone too badly since it was part of the contract when she was hired. Not that it would matter much with how the imperial didn't even budge with the full force attack. In fact she just started laughing with too much glee in her voice. It was like whatever she was doing was simply just a game of seeing how much destruction she can cause.

All this did was infuriate Styx, she liked a good fight but not when it was unfair! She called upon the strongest plague magic she could muster in that moment and hurled the infested bolt towards the imperial, landing squarely in her chest, causing her to stumble. Then swiftly delivered blow after blow with her blade. She only stopped when she heard the sparks of fire magic crackling from the imperials mouth, ready to set the whole building ablaze if she didn't stop her soon.

Flying up in an attempt to stop the rogue imperial quickly proved to be a bad move here, she was quickly knocked down to the ground by the imperial using the flat end of her weapon. She crashed into the ground, she felt like she was sandwiched between two brick walls. It was a struggle to muster enough energy to use one of the emergency potions she kept on her for situations like this, but she prevailed, greedily drinking down as much of the syrupy potion as she could.

Getting back up with new strength she quickly asessed her surroundings, which was entirely on fire. The flames were creeping, threatening to lick the tuft of hair on her tail. Taking a step forward to stay out of the way of that she turned her gaze upward and saw the imperial from before, smiling from within the flames and singing a happy tune that sounded like it was an opening theme to a kids show. Not a song leading to her potential death.

As much as she hated to admit she done this, Styx yelled, this situation was getting too far out of hand. Sure she would constantly boast about winning the most unlikely of fights but she wasn't stupid enough to enter one without exhausting every other possible option first. She wasn't built to handle the fire, and the smoke was starting to get to her.

Seemingly enthusiastic about her percieved victory, the imperial slowly walked over, making sure to time her steps to the song. Then as the song reached its peak she swung her weapon and...

Wispy was standing there, gripping the edge of the weapon before it could make contact with anything else.

"You enter my store, set it on fire, and then attempt to murder one of my employees!? And to top it all of you sing that song!?" She pulled the weapon out of the imperials grip with relative ease and points it back at her "Get out of my store or you know the consequences"

The imperials smile twitched before she angrily swiped her weapon out of Wispys grasp and left, making sure to make a mess out of anything she beelined for the exit. Unlike usual, this was the most mad Styx has ever seen Wispy, especially considering her usual unbothered and carefree way of running the place. However that didn't last long since she just took a deep breath and resumed her normal customer-friendly attitude.

"Sorry about making you fight her alone, I just had to deal with someone who also had the same idea and had to make him leave before he released anything from the basement. I hope you understand that for many legal reasons I can't let either of them into the basement." Wispy spoke in her usual friendly yet professional voice, sliding Styx an envelope simply labelled "oops money".

"Just take this and pretend you didn't see anything while I deal with the fire" Ah, right yes, the place was still on fire.

...

A weird day for sure, but hopefully she never had to see that imperial again, or whoever it was Wispy briefly mentioned having to deal with.

At least she got paid well for that incident.
