The Hellfire Guardian is known by many for the strange hellfire that surrounds him as he sits still as a statue at the entrance of the 6 Crests. Having been raised by the Heretic Knight, he grew with a deep loyalty to the 6 Crests, yet what he did not gain from his teacher was his compulsion to hunt Shade-worshippers. Oh, he holds them in utmost contempt, not surprising given his blood but that contempt is not great enough for him to abandon the duty he holds to the 6 Crests, that of guardianship, one that he desperately holds onto. He holds onto it for the simple reason that it is the only thing that stops him from falling into the abyss that balances himself on. He has managed to take the gifts given by the Shade and Hell to his ancestor, and pit them against each other. This forced each to constantly feed more power into him, eventually giving birth to the mutated hellfire that he became known for. Yet, as the war continues, he meditates at the entrance from where he can best guard the 6 Crests.

It is said that when one looks into the abyss for long enough, then the abyss begins to stare back. In the case of the Hellfire Guardian, it turned out to be truer than any thought possible. While Hell pushed more energy into him, a resident, whose locality was suddenly not as comfortable as it used to be, began to investigate. Eventually, it looked into the leak of sorts, to see a young meditating pearlcatcher that happened to be on fire. Now this inhabitant happened to be a hellhound, who by rule of thumb tends to also be on fire, hence, understandably, was intrigued by this strange sight. Slowly, the hellhound worked to expand this leak, until it managed to slip through, giving the then young pearlcatcher quite the shock. In shock, the pearlcatcher did what anyone would do, threw his hellfire at it. Though to the surprise of the pearlcatcher once more, the hellhound proceeded to eat said flames, and his own fire changed to contain the traits. Deciding to keep this strange dog, Ember went to his teacher for assistance, who on that day found that even hellhounds were capable of puppy eyes.
