 Otani Yoshitsugu » I Cannot Go Against the Flow of Time « 大谷 吉継 | 1558 - 10.21.1600 | 178 cm From appearances, Yoshitsugu was a serious man with little flexibility for others. But to those who had known him personally, he had proven to be quite the opposite. Yoshitsugu was a man with a healthy sense of humour, though with a deadpan face, and liked to poke fun at both himself and close friends. He understood how he came off to people and would go along with it with complete seriousness to see how people react and was always happy when people fall for his jokes. Yoshitsugu had a weak heart for compassion and quickly befriended Ishida Mitsunari, seeing how naive and irrational he was, but how much he deeply cared for the Toyotomi and wanted to protect them. Yoshitsugu was no fool. He knew that going down this path meant that he would most likely be fighting a losing fight. Mitsunari was going up against Tokugawa Ieyasu, a man with much more maturity and experience than Mitsunari, and loyal followers that would fight to the ends of the earth. Mitsunari was quick tempered and had a sharp tongue which made him despised. But yet something about him made Yoshitsugu realise he couldn’t give up on him. He, along with Shima Sakon, vowed to protect Mitsunari’s views as long as they lived and they would die protecting it. The Battle of Sekigahara was the end. Yoshitsugu knew this. Despite everything they had done to try secure a win, he knew someone would try to betray them and it could turn the whole battle against him. But he did not expect Kobayakawa Hideki to be the one to make the turn, and soon many others followed and Mitsunari was being betrayed left and right. Immediately, the battle was Ieyasu’s win, but Yoshitsugu would not give up and he decided that if he would die, he would die fighting hard. He never came back.
