Toyotomi Hideyoshi

» I'll Reshape this Troubled World as I See Fit «

豊臣 秀吉 | 03.17.1537 - 09.18.1598 | 155 cm

Known as the “monkey” or the “bald rat”, Hideyoshi was a short and hyperactive man who’s love for laughing and making people happy rivaled his love for women. With every emotion, he was just as ridiculous, prone to crying his eyes out when he’s sad and pouting like a child when he is upset about something. But Hideyoshi was still an ambitious man, a man who desired for a happy Japan where everyone could laugh and be free from the pain of war.

Hideyoshi believed in Oda Nobunaga fully and believed that his lord would be the one to stop this chaos, but as the years went by, he began to wonder if it was necessary to be this ruthless. His feelings only grew worse as he was forced to participate in the Battle of Saika, burning down his best friends’ village and killing many of his comrades because they were opposed to Nobunaga and had allied themselves with Honganji Kennyo. There was no way that Magoichi would let this pass, and Hideyoshi’s worst fears came true when he assassinated Nobunaga during the fateful night at Honno-ji. Hideyoshi raised a flag against Mitsuhide and defeated him, becoming the successor for Nobunaga.

Hideyoshi was efficient and his massive army made it hard for anyone to oppose him. But as years went by, he began to worry what measure he would have to take, and if he would lose his humanity and humility in the process of unification.

A fear that sadly became true near the end of his life, as he slowly burned to a tyrant, most notable in his persecution of Christians and the Korea Campaign.

In the last moments of his life, he lamented over his change and tyranny, before he slipped away due to illness.
