Sitala considers herself a great success in the eyes of her patron deity, the Plaguebringer. Strange and unknown diseases course through her body, yet she shows few ill effects. Her body is fit and strong, and her mind is not dulled by the constant war raging inside. Despite the handicap, she thrives.

But being a reservoir for disease presents a problem. She was not interested in staying in the Scarred Wasteland or serving the Plaguebringer directly, but she could bring disaster to any other groups. How could she find a haven that she wouldn't destroy?

The answer came with the Empyreal clan and its unusual demands. Its many scientists and scholars were keenly interested in her, and due to their stringent cleanliness, they had tools to control the spread of disease. But there was one term that came with her arrival: she must have limited contact with others and spend most of her time in the safety of her lair.

Supplies and food are brought to her daily. Everyone that interacts with her must thoroughly cleanse themselves or risk an infection. Sitala rarely appears in public and only does so after a hot bath while wearing a protective mask. The clan's lightbringer and "geomancer" keep a close eye on what she touches, just in case anything slips out.

It's hard living with such a set of rules. Sitala contents herself with study, play, and conversation with those prepared to meet her. Her comforts are her plague-resistant familiar and daily visits from the pathologist. Persephone's grown very close to her, but Sitala's reluctant to return any affection.
