Lore:

Noran was chosen to to be the leader of his own clan by Gladekeeper, and spent most of his life as an orphaned disciple of the god. He never saw her, but she would speak to him by writing letters.
When he first started his clan, he thought that he was obliged to make the first female to arrive his queen, but something about it made him discomforted.
After having a child with the female tundra, everything clicked. He knew that girls just weren’t his type.
After the female, Cream, willfully stepped down as queen, Noran felt alone still.
One day, he found a refugee dragon who was supposed to be trained to serve under his deity, Windsinger. Noran had then agreed to help him with his training.
After spending some time on the battlefield, Noran found himself growing fond of the spiral dragon.
His name was Nikolo.
Noran had bonded more with Nikolo, and soon found out that above fighting, Nikolo wanted to be an alchemist.
As Nikolo one day sighed upon thinking about his eventual departure, Noran had checked on him.
They just stared at each other, and when Noran started to tear up upon seeing the dragon that made him feel whole again contemplate leaving...
The spiral just said: “I’m staying, Noran.”
“What!?”
“Noran... I... As I have stayed with you, I actually felt welcome somewhere for the first time in my life.”
Nikolo grasped Noran, and pulled him into a hug.
“The one I feel is greater than Windsinger, or even Gladekeeper, is you, Noran.”
It all clicked into place.
Tears streaming down his face, Noran gave a smile, and hugged the spiral closer.
“Nikolo... Nik... I feel the same way. I love you.”
“I love you too, Noran.”
Nikolo was appointed royal alchemist, and the two stayed happily in the clan ever since.
