Heartly - Pirate
Scarred land rested wasted around him, upheaved by a raging war between clans. Shadow filled in the craters charred by fire, grass patches appeared colourless and trees were bent broken and smouldering. While determination forced him on, uncertainty fizzled in his chest as he fiddled with the dangling scarf around his neck. Dragons came and went from his clan, returning home to greet families left behind during the war, but it had been months and his parents had yet to come back. No letters, no signs, no contact. Sure it was tough at first, fending for himself among the other starved hatchlings, but he managed to make do, sustaining himself through the long winters. He became talented in close range fights from the scraps for rations and could no longer bear not knowing. On his own he set out, vowing not to return until he found his parents. Days passed him by while his food quickly diminished and water became scarce. Starving and dehydrated, wings unable to carry him, he stumbled into a clearing to take respite from his journey. But when he glanced up, across scruff patches of grass and leaves were masses of crudely made graves. Carved into a flat stone were the words 'For the Fallen.' Among them, he found his parents - victims to battle and buried in graves, cold and lonely.

Heartly is not a dragon known for his sense of direction and lost was practically his middle name. However, what he lacks in directional sense, he makes up for in courage. No challenge is too big for this coatl, or so he thinks. But when the going gets tough he turns to his crewmates, Captain Ossprey, Monsterofthedeep and Ossprey's charge, Abyss. This unlikely team of dragons formed under a series of fortunate - or unfortunate - encounters. Weak from lack of sustenance during his journey to find his parents, Heartly was taken by Raiders scouting old battlegrounds for something of value. They dragged him to the sea, storing him away on a ship. Deep in the night, the ship set sail for distant shores but was attacked by pirates, brought down to the bottom of the ocean by sheer might and the overpowering force of a giant guardian. Hidden among the treasure she came to steal, Ossprey encountered Heartly. She appreciated the blazing fire burning in this young coatl's eyes and took him in, freeing him and raising him as her right hand.
