Largal
The sun rises and sets before me...  Born of fire on the last sunrise of the month, when Largal tumbled out of her egg, she was snatched away by the high-ups for a wealthy price. A regal-born, they claimed, and they weren't to blame for saying so. Her fur was the colour of the surface of the sun, her opal streaks held the glimmer of each rise and setting of each day, eyes burning with a ferocity that only came from the strongest of the Fire Realm. It was like she had been born as a living representation of each passing day. Growing up in royalty, she took great care in her form, constantly brushing and washing her smooth, short coat, polishing and cleaning her opal. Each day when she stepped from her room, those passing by in the corridors told her of her surreal beauty. Largal however, was not as happy as she seemed. She was born for the skies, and yet, with her opal streaks, she was grounded. Her delicate body could not hold up the weight of each hardened chunk, too heavy for her wings to keep her in the air. She dreamt of gliding above clouds, soaring in rays of sun, while knowing it would never happen. Opal could be removed surgically, but even for a regal it was a hefty purchase, and she would lose her title. She was told if she ever went through with it, she would be kicked from the manor like a peasant, and left stripped of her life. She had no choice but to put up with it. Some days, where she could stand on the edge of the cliff in the breeze alone, feel the mist of the crashing waves below her on her face, and raise her weighted wings, she could let it all fall away. Forget everything, and enjoy the moment. Though she yearned to join the sky, she was one with the ground. It was better this way. Without her opal, she would have nothing. |
